Episode Transcript
Speaker 0 00:00:01 The morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I am your host Elliot Pierre, and we're gonna start the show off the same way we start every episode off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time. So the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me on that note, Tanner hit him with,
Speaker 1 00:00:21 Oh, she caught me loves you're listening to the next city morning show.
Speaker 0 00:00:30 All right. We got to reoccurring guests. This guy's a Jim to say least he's got a lot to talk about. Cause he's got a lot going on. So as you know, I don't introduce my guests. I let them do that themselves. So on that note, sir, please tell everybody who you are and re-introduce please. Okay.
Speaker 3 00:00:44 Well thank you. That was, that was a nice intro. Hey forward, Marie Dennis here with brand connect. Uh, I'm very happy back on the Mac Sydney morning show and uh, you know what? I'm actually here because we have so much good and big news for you guys. Ah, you're really looking forward to this upcoming season. I know like
Speaker 0 00:00:59 You got the look, you got the look going today for the events coming this little Diddy. Yeah, you got the shades, you got the coolest shirts. You got the shorts. You, you got a built in tan going on right now as well.
Speaker 3 00:01:09 Yeah, it's been, it's been a long summer of events and I've luckily been outside a whole bunch of them. I always had some great golf tournaments. A couple of weeks back there. It was huge success. We loved it. Uh, but no, the outfit is because I don't know if you, uh, attended or anyone watching attended, but we had a rib Fest up the Kasmin center and it was a drive-thru event. Right. We actually had, it was one of the largest attended drive, the rip Fest in Alberta. So congrats for magnetics coming out. Here we go. As I was standing at the front, I said to everybody, I said, listen, thanks for coming out and going through this drive-through at first, you know, it wasn't the same as you normally do, but it was a drive-through it worked. Here we go. I said, but I'll be back with the Fest. You've had the ribs now I'm bringing the festival back. This is the festival outfit.
Speaker 0 00:01:49 I like it. I like it. So when is this going down? Give me
Speaker 3 00:01:53 Okay. So labor day weekend, we're back at us tonight. I'm so excited to be down there. I can't tell you enough. Like we we've been buzzing all week. We're so excited. Um, I've had a great team on this. We've had a lot of great sponsors involved. The arm WB has been amazing to work with and we've put everything in place to offer for Mick Murray, a full weekend of free concerts, events, uh, activities for the kids, for the families. Uh, we have, uh, we're bringing a bunch of new, uh, uh, things down to the Sinai this labor day weekend. So, uh, yeah, so we're ready to go. But the, but the entertainment is that it's a, it's a four day long free concert for the community.
Speaker 0 00:02:29 Okay. Any idea, as of right now who these bands are going to be well, is that top secret? You got to show up for it.
Speaker 3 00:02:36 Well, you know, we made the announcement last week that on the Saturday, uh, Gord Bamford's coming to town. Wow. He was here last year for a small drive in, um, concert. But due to COVID, they could only have like a hundred cars. Uh, so they had up at the airport. It was a great show. I was actually out there, we loved it, but there was probably a waiting list of another thousand cars that wanted to come. But we couldn't because of COVID and the restrictions. So I was talking to Gord and I said, do you want to come back up? And he was like, heck yeah, I love Fort Mac. And I say, let's do it. So on Saturday, we're gonna build a stroll down to this. And I point park with your family, bring your lawn chairs, stand, whatever you'd like to do and enjoy a free Gord Bamford concert. That's awesome, man. I was talking to his staff and he tours around all the time and there's never been actually a free concert. Him and people pay a lot of money to go see Gord. And we're like Fort Mac, you support us. Our rope trucks. Got you guys. Gord Bamford. Nice.
Speaker 0 00:03:31 So when it comes to the rip trucks, how many rip trucks are coming back for this festival?
Speaker 3 00:03:35 It's funny. Cause they came up here and they're like, Dennis, we can't come back to Fort Mac. Like, you know, we've already been there. And I was like, I was like, well guess just come, just come party with us. Like you've already done the red part now come enjoy it. And they're like, all right, we're coming back up. We're bringing the truck. So Billy's barbecue. Camp 31, Buckeye, barbecue pistol, Pete, they're all come back up. I'm a Jack. He was not going to miss this. Yeah. He knows him where he loves her poutines, like coming up, like we're looking forward to that. Uh, but yeah. So there, there will be all the food trucks. So if you're hungry, you'll be able to eat. But you know, that's uh, like I said, we're, we're focusing on the festival part of this time. So have the ribs real fast now it's time for the Fest. Yeah,
Speaker 0 00:04:10 There we go. I got to say though, Fort Mac loves those ribs. Well, they're delicious. I, a lot, when they were up, I actually went to a birthday party for a child. And instead of traditional pizza, hot dogs, the parents said, Hey, listen, we're going to go to rib Fest. We're going to pick up a bunch of ribs. Are you adults into that? And everybody said, yeah. So it was a kid's birthday party. They had their stuff. But all the adults I'm talking, there is a decent amount of us. We won't go into numbers, but there is a number of us. They're all. Even from rib Fest, they went through drive-through and brought it back. So it's a thing, man. People know about it
Speaker 3 00:04:45 And said, and I, and I love the guys. They love being here. I make Marie loves them. It's great. But now that we're back in the more of the festival format, I'm actually, I've actually invited some more restaurants to be involved as well. Very cool. So one cool thing got to get this festival is a smoked corn from 57 north and their pork and bones restaurant. So they're going to be smoking corn. They're going to finish them off on the grill, put them on a stick. You're going to dunk it into a crockpot full of butter and then pick all your seasonings for it. I mango habanero. You can do just some salts. You can do whatever you like and corn on a stick. I don't know if you ever been to a festival. It has it. It's. It's great to get all sloppy with the butter.
Speaker 0 00:05:20 Yeah. Nice. I'm a corn eating champion. I've I've, there's a, uh, a local event that takes place. It's underground. It's called corn Fest. And I currently hold the belt for most ears of corn. Eden. We're not going to go into how many it's a lot of corn hole. Oh yeah, there you go. But cause I don't want my competitors practicing prior to, but it's a yearly event. I think I can crush them
Speaker 3 00:05:48 Now. Can I ask you, is there a technique to it? Are you doing like the slide, the Cobb down your tooth and making the corn go in. There you go on byte for byte.
Speaker 0 00:05:54 Oh, I'm just enjoying it byte for byte the technique. And it's a little trick. I'll tell you about one. Having a little bit of alcohol in your system helps. Not a lot. Just a little bit. It helps for clogging yourself. Yeah. Yeah. Performance enhancement. And the other component is actually eat a little bit of other stuff as well. So don't just stick to corn, like yeah. Cause I know that's my trick, but yeah, I'm definitely, I've never had corn on a,
Speaker 3 00:06:22 If I make my way down to this underground corn competition.
Speaker 0 00:06:26 Okay. I like it. I'm going to I'll I'll I'll talk to the organizer. So you've been super busy. We've been to a number of these different events, the golf tournaments that you've had this year. Tell us about how those went for you. And I know you raised some good, good profits for some non, uh not-for-profits here in town. Yeah. Like, you know,
Speaker 3 00:06:43 Well like the, um, the former Marine toolbox open, it's a, it's a networking tournament and we did, and we started off with seven north and karma mere playing guitar. Um, you know, we did invite the boys and girls called the day to do those 50 fifties and things like that. But yeah, the actual terminal itself, uh, it was a huge success. We gave away a quad from 4g motor sports. Uh, United rentals was there with all their teams. We had clean harbors. We had pro serve DQ. Uh, we had so many companies, uh, I got to give a show to Dale, penny from TLC disposals. He has been at every event we've had. And actually just before we go back to the golf, tournament's when we had the drive-thru rib Fest, he was a sponsor that dropped off the bins. He was hanging a banner and I was like, Hey Dale, I'm like, can you me a favor?
Speaker 3 00:07:25 My volunteers, not yet. Can you handle this menu? And as cars come in at the first day, first hour, he's like, I can do that for you, Dennis. Yeah. And I was like, thanks. Day three, 16 hours later. There's Dale still handing out, man. He was talking to every single person. I don't know what you guys use for waste services, but call Dale penny at CLC. He is just a beauty. And uh, yeah, I really enjoyed working with him that weekend and he's actually going to be doing all the port-a-potties and a for this big festival we're having it's labor day weekend. Nice
Speaker 0 00:07:54 Bales
Speaker 3 00:07:54 A gym then. Yeah. So back to the tournament. So I was with Dale and it started raining on us and uh, the sort of Friday, it starts pouring rain and a bigger fella, you know, pretty hefty guy goes, Hey, what's the prize for the longest slide? I'm like, what's the longest lie. Yeah. Peels his shirt. He just runs and Belize slides across the green and he made it like a few meters. I was like, well, didn't go bud. But you know, it was a huge success, the two of us. So it's always a great event. Um, you know, and uh, and then the following day we had the fairway carnival. I'm not normally one to tournaments back to back cause it took a lot out of me. Um, hence also we're wearing sunglasses. So we said, no, no, it took a lot out of me.
Speaker 3 00:08:33 But uh, the fairway carnival ended up being such a huge success more than we could have imagined. You know, it started off with Northwest construction management, giving everyone a cocktail and the Maconomy tea group was the title sponsor for that. But we had so many great holes. I got to end up in the dunk tank and for the banquet, instead of doing your traditional laptop, I actually had Schneider trucking put up a trailer there. We had Joel rebel playing on it. We got some tables put out. We did a pig roast. We had all these fire pits going and we created this army on out there, uh, with the help of a lot of our sponsors. And, uh, it was amazing. No one left, everyone came back in and we listened to music, had a great time. So yeah, the tournament's overall were a huge success and that it was just a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 00:09:11 That's good, man. I'm happy to hear it. And now you got another festival come in with root Fest. Yeah. So dude, so we're going to finish off the year like this. Uh, so rib Fest is coming up, but we're actually focusing on the snipe point festival. That's going to be the free concert for the community. So, uh, you know, we're going to have some shuttles, places from Timberlake, Greg, wherever he can get, get on the bus, come on down, enjoy it. We'll get you home safe. Uh, you know, sun taxi is doing a taxi stand. There's very limited parking down there. So we want to make sure everyone can enjoy it and come on down. That's awesome, Dennis. But yeah, you know, it's important for me. Like, you know, this community gives me so much, I want to give back. And uh, but I think it's having something like this where you can just grab your kids.
Speaker 3 00:09:50 Cause I'll be honest when you can take your family to do stuff it's expensive. Right. I took my niece and nephews to the movies and I was like, what just happened? Yeah. I need a second job. Um, and, and, and the movies are worth it. I love them. It was, I was there last week, seeing the movie. It's a great experience, what they do with that. Theater's awesome. We have these big lazy boys, but so th th the values there, I'm not trying to downplay it. I'm just saying it is expensive. It's expensive. It is so to provide transportation, a venue and a free concert. Uh, we did touch on Gord, but we also we're kicking off the weekend with a bunch of our local acts plus a headliner called the odds. I love the odds. You might not know you think, you know the odds, but you know, the odds you go YouTube, the odds and you'll sing along to every song they have.
Speaker 3 00:10:29 And, uh, and then on the S on the Sunday for our, for our older crowd and our Fort Mac, let's like rock crowd. Um, you know, we have honeymoon suite. Oh, nice. Yeah. Classic eighties band, really well known. They have a ton of hits, huge catalog for songs. And it's going to be kind of like the trooper, right? They're going to be down there. They're going to start playing a Sunday night and Monday's a holiday, so we can really have some fun and we're going to go the full night. We're gonna have a great time with honeymoon suite. And we do have some other bands all day long. We have actually some more headliners coming. Um, you know, a lot of sponsorship is covering the cost of the entertainment. So more companies involved, the more bands we can get. That's awesome. And, uh, and we've had some great sponsors, so, yeah.
Speaker 3 00:11:08 Uh, but, uh, and we'll, we'll, you'll see those in the pace. And then on the Monday, we're going full family. So we got some DJs. We're doing a Monday fun day. Uh, we're going to be down there with the washer toss tournament. And yes, there is a washer toss tournament. If you don't sign your team up, look online on the wood, Buffalo face, rib Fest page, and sign up your washer, toss team. It's all day to throw in wash. That'd be great. Yes, we can be a good time. What do you do with the dryers? So, uh, so this is going to be a full weekend. Like I said, it's free to the community. Now, if you want food or some beers, you're gonna have to pay for those, there'll be water and stuff you can have. And, uh, I think we have a couple of groups. Some non-profits there will be involved. They'll be giving out popcorn. And Monday is also the rubber duck race for the big brothers, big sisters. I love that event. One of my favorite events. And, uh, there'll be there selling the ducks all weekend. And then Monday will be the big event where they actually flushed the ducks down. The
Speaker 0 00:12:01 Nice Dennis man, you got so much energy. You do so much for your community. I love it, man. But we're stealing Tanner shine. We got to get him in. He's got a segment. You know, it it's called the Maxine Tanner hidden with the maximum minute. Oh,
Speaker 4 00:12:13 Alrighty. Question number one. What is one rib truck you will not miss eating at.
Speaker 3 00:12:19 Oh, okay. So all the trucks are amazing. And I tour with them. I did seven rip Fest events this summer. Uh, we were in Fort St. John. We were in Airdrie. We were everywhere. Uh, but I have to say that they all offer something different, unique that I like, uh, you know, when I'm rocking some, you know, I got to go with this. I liked them all. And they're all my friends. They're all good. They're all different flavors. That's the thing is like, the ribs are all amazing, but it's your, it's your taste of flavors, right? Summer, uh, sweet and tangy summer smokey. So it's never, what's one like baskets, what am I feeling for? Right. You go. And sometimes when I'm rocking, just some brisket, I put no sauce at all and I just eat some brisket. That's right. Uh, but, uh, but I will say is Puppa, Jackson's coming up.
Speaker 3 00:13:04 And, you know, we tried to use them for the drive-through with the poutine of the blooming onions. You didn't get the same effect as you can see. I probably crush at least two poutines every refresh weekend when I'm on the road with these guys. And it is delicious puppet, Jack is awesome. And his son is one of the rib truck owners, also, uh, artists. Um, and he'll be performing on the stage as well. So we're, it's going to be a full fun weekend, but, uh, yeah, I don't have a favorite, but I do crush two poutines, like a show.
Speaker 4 00:13:32 There you go, man, question number two, if you could have one entertainment or brought up to the Mac, who would you choose?
Speaker 3 00:13:41 Okay. So I am going to be working on bringing some extra entertainment up after, um, the, this, uh, the rift Fest. We're looking to do a concert, a Christmas party with all like the competence focus sweaters, and we're doing the diamond Royal gala. Okay. Um, I'm going to say if I had to pick an entertainer, uh, I have a massive crush on Megan, Patrick. She's a country artist. Um, I don't know. She might like, and she might not, I don't know yet. Uh, she, she shot man, but I will say that one of my favorite artists of all time is the red hot chili peppers. Uh, my claim to fame is I've seen the chili peppers four times in five days on two different tours, ethic backs, back nights and Toronto and Ottawa and, uh, two different tours. And then I was luckily enough to go with Rogers. Uh, Katrina had three rocking in 79 down in their concert, three years going Edmonton. So nine times from the docket, the only band I've seen before is the tragically hip. Okay. As an Ontario boy, I've seen the, I've seen the hit play Bob Cajun in Bob Cajun. That's awesome. But yeah, I would, I would love the chili peppers do a huge short Mac island, rocket elk, and the whole city. You imagine
Speaker 4 00:14:51 Question number three, what is the most rewarding part of being able to help so many people in charities with your events?
Speaker 3 00:14:59 You don't, you know what Tanner, that's a weather, whether it's a sports team, um, a nonprofit, just friends, a family who wants to come out for someone who plans events. Obviously I like the social aspect of things, but when you're, when you're looking around, you see all the smiles and it's this, that, that time away from your, your life when you can just enjoy and be somewhere else, you know, we transform spaces into new places, just so you know, to create this atmosphere. But you see the smiling faces, you see the kids with the bubble ones. The most, the most rewarding part is just seeing people enjoy themselves. And, uh, and I, and I, as someone who attends events frequently as well, um, it is that time you can just like, turn everything off and enjoy a concert, you know, get lost in a truck and a song. It's uh, so that's, that's the party mode I like, pardon me? Sorry, man. You're getting me all emotional
Speaker 4 00:15:47 Question. Number four. What inspired your love of such?
Speaker 3 00:15:53 Yeah. You got to see my closet. You got a pretty sick wardrobe, bro. Um, okay. So my friend, dear friend, childhood friend, Thomas <inaudible>, he always tries to one up me. So when we're getting, when we're like, I'm going to, I saw Todd last weekend. And the first thing he said was, I hope you enjoy second place. And I was like, oh, it's one of these kinds of weekends. So we try to outdo each other. They're buying back on my birthday in July to Toronto to go home. Something happened along the way, AKA, I might've left my ID and Chili's, and couldn't get on my second plane. So I was stuck in Calgary. I luggage was in Toronto. So my friend Todd lives in Calgary and I was like, Tati. I'm like, I'm stuck in Calgary. And like, pick me up. He's like, no, Dennis, it's your birthday.
Speaker 3 00:16:36 And you're stuck in Calgary. He's like, let's tear this up. And I was like, okay. I decided to go to Canmore. And uh, so I was like, all right, I'm not wearing a Jean and hoodie. So like, let's look at winners. So, uh, went and got great shirt. And I was like, oh, like, this is the shirt for the weekend. Like, this is it. But I was looking for shorts and there's only one pair of shorts in my size. And it was these like pinkish rose color shorts. Right. I could rock pink except for, they were cargo shorts. And there were also three quarters length. Okay, dog, like you can't pull those off. And I was like challenge accepted. We want some, uh, old school Adidas and kicks and some white shoes. And I had my three-quarter length shorts and this awesome shirt. And we're rocking cam.
Speaker 3 00:17:19 We're having a great time. We get to the rose and crown and there's bachelor party, bachelorette party, bachelor party, bachelorette party. And we got them all intermixed and having a great time where everyone's just like loving life. And the server goes, I got a question for you. She's like, everyone seems to love you. I'm like, yeah, thanks. She goes, but who the heck dressed? You can't pull it off. The whole rose and crown Patty was chanting. Can't pull it off. I can't. I was like, I totally pulled it off. And I'm like, happy birthday, me chanting. Pull it off. That is a great story. It was a fun night. We had a great time down in Kamara and, uh, you know, it was fine. But, uh, so you know, when, when Todd's up here, he'll be here for the labor day weekend concert. You'll see him in his own fit, but he will be second place. Cause I got some things lined up for that weekend. Nice.
Speaker 4 00:18:05 And your final question, what is your favorite part of attending your own events? Uh,
Speaker 3 00:18:11 I am going to say the free drinks.
Speaker 0 00:18:14 That's not a bad way.
Speaker 3 00:18:15 Live a life. You know what it's, uh, I'm not by any means promoting alcohol or, or, uh, you know, over consumption, but it's a, you know, when you're you get to attend a concert, you can just walk up and grab your beer off the bar. No one can say a word. The Xander bar, it's pretty fun. Uh, not waiting in lineups. Uh, sorry to be that guy to cut, but yeah, I know it's
Speaker 4 00:18:35 No line to cut without
Speaker 3 00:18:36 You will exactly know <inaudible> events is a, um, seeing everyone out there coming together because we have a tight to me up here with big community. And you know, when you get everyone out, it's, it's just fun. Yeah.
Speaker 4 00:18:49 There you go. And those have been your five questions.
Speaker 0 00:18:51 So speaking about the drinks, I'll jump on that bandwagon with you. So me and Tanner had been doing this show for a bit now. Right? Right. But COVID, we didn't really see anybody. We weren't able to go out. We weren't able to interact. So we see people making comments and we see people, you can see the views and stuff. Um, so we're like, okay, people are liking it, but we hadn't had any engagement. So we went out after one of your golf tournaments and we went, uh, to some local establishment, some bars here in town. Well, Dennis, I gotta say one of the nicest things about the max any morning show is now that we're back out in public. People recognize myself and Tanner's voice. And we got drinks all night long. It was epic. Great, great time.
Speaker 4 00:19:33 Uh, let's be real here. People didn't recognize my voice. They recognize me cause I was with you and they were like, oh, they must be here.
Speaker 0 00:19:40 Hey, did you get free drinks? I did. Well then so yeah, I liked the free drink components as well. Like that's, that's a good part of life. If somebody will give you a free drink here and there,
Speaker 3 00:19:49 Before we wrap up, I have one quick free drink story. Okay. Let's hear. It's really good. So me and the boys, uh, I went to uni in, uh, in Ontario and uh, but at the time where I was at Georgian college and Barrie and a bunch of my friends were different schools around and some friends in Hamilton were like, come on down. We're throwing a big party at big bucks. And we're like road trips. So we all meet. And Hamilton is four of us. And uh, we have a great weekend down there. So this big events going on, the fire and ice party at big bucks for farmers were like running on. And I'm like, boys, I'm like, I'm out of cash. Like we're college kids, you know, money. And everyone's like, Mike let's pool our money. How should we have, like, we have a hundred dollars.
Speaker 3 00:20:23 I'm like, that's our gas money home though. And we're like, well, do we go out? What do we do? And I'm like, I got an idea. So we get to the bar and I go to the, one of the promoters there. I'm like, Hey, listen. I'm like, can I use your microphone? We want to get a hundred bucks. And he's like, why? I'm like, Hey, we want to get a hundred bucks. He's like, here's the mic? So I'm like, yo, what else? Hamilton? Like, uh, actually the St Catherine's like my big box. I'm like, who wants to win a hundred bucks? And they're like, like, yeah, me now, this is my boy Mackey here. I was like, I'm going to tell him a word. We're gonna play a game called the volts. And if you can get the word out of Mackie, you win the a hundred bucks. So everyone's gonna smack you. Like, so how can we get there? He's like, start by buying me a drink. He's passing these drinks down for free all night. And then this gorgeous blonde girl goes up to at the end of the night. And I'm looking at Mac he's like, I'm like, don't do it, man. Don't do anything whisper. And right here at her run to the bar and grabbed the money. I was like, oh, we were so close. Perfect night. It was a full night of free drinks. The volt.
Speaker 0 00:21:13 That's an awesome story, Dennis. It's a pleasure. You got to come back. I know you're busy. So it won't be in the next week or two. But after these events or before the events to promote us more, please come back on the show. Well,
Speaker 3 00:21:25 I want to have you guys part of the diamond Royal gala. Oh,
Speaker 0 00:21:28 There we go. And I'd love to be like, we've done a few things where the Mac city morning show shows up to your events. Yes. Maybe we can do some filming at events.
Speaker 3 00:21:36 The diamond Royal gala is a gal it's casino themed. We give away diamond prizes and fun.
Speaker 0 00:21:43 It's a good one. We'll be there. Okay. This is part of the show. You get a shameless out plug, whatever you want to my man.
Speaker 3 00:21:49 Uh, you know what, uh, as you've seen over social media, you've heard on the radio big thanks to cash. And I have three in rock, nice. 79. We have some amazing talent coming up. We have a huge venue for you guys come enjoy. So if you get the chance, come on down to the snipe point park, uh, labor day weekend, we will be there. 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM every single day, enjoy the ribs, enjoy the food, the festival, and mostly come on down and find me for a beer.
Speaker 0 00:22:13 There we go. Awesome. Well, Fort Macquarie, wood, Buffalo. That's another episode of the Mac city morning show. Thank you very much for tuning in. I truly, it means the world to me. So on that note, hopefully you're having a great day. We'll see you tomorrow. Peace.
