Episode Transcript
Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You tuned into the Mac city morning show. I'm your host, Elliot Pierre. And we're going to start the show off the same way we start every episode off with a moment of gratitude. I know you can be doing a million other things with your time. So the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me on that note, Tanner hidden with the intro.
Speaker 0 00:00:30 Alright, and we're back. So as you can tell, we are not on the set of the max city morning show. We are down at rib Fest. I'm just going to throw it out there before it starts. Again, it is a live concert and music is going. So if the sound is a bit off because the band's rocking, I can't do anything about it. So I apologize. As you know, I do not introduce our guests because they can do a better job at that than myself. So on that note, can you please tell everybody at home who you are and what you're about?
Speaker 2 00:00:53 I'm Sarah from Crozer BKR, um, we're here this weekend with the sponsor of the VIP section.
Speaker 0 00:01:01 And there you go. So what's going on in the VIP section this weekend? Huh?
Speaker 2 00:01:05 We're going to obviously be here all weekend every night. Um, just come down, have a great time and enjoy ribs and music. There you go.
Speaker 0 00:01:13 Oh, so tell me what process is about. I don't know what you guys are all about. What do you guys do?
Speaker 2 00:01:17 Uh, we're a foreign flood restoration company. Oh, what? Sorry. While you're in flood restoration. So we handle all insurance claims or any kind of damage to them. And it had had hot water tanks and we also deal with mold and as pastas.
Speaker 0 00:01:35 Alright, there you go. So you guys would go into the house and like do like an overall assessment and then do the work or just the assessment component,
Speaker 2 00:01:41 Full emergency to dry down portion, remove the materials that need to be on the roof. Um, then we also can do the full rebuilt portion as well.
Speaker 0 00:01:52 Wow. That's fantastic. That's great. So a one stop shop if somebody finds themselves in need of those emergency services. Okay, cool. So how long have you guys been in town for
Speaker 2 00:02:03 I've owned it since 2012. It's been a part of the community since 1977.
Speaker 0 00:02:10 And so how long have you been in the community
Speaker 2 00:02:12 For? I was here. I came up in 2012. Okay.
Speaker 0 00:02:15 So what brought you up here and where are you from originally?
Speaker 2 00:02:17 I'm from BC. I did restoration back there as well, but the opportunity to buy into poster back on my brother's up here.
Speaker 0 00:02:27 Nice. So it's you and it's just you. Okay, sweet. There you go. Good for you. That's exciting. So over the last few years, definitely with what has transpired in Fort McMurray, you must've been extremely busy.
Speaker 2 00:02:41 We were fairly busy for, you know, the fires and everything like that definitely has kept us busy and we're so happy to be able to help out when they are. So again, so happy to be part of this community because Fort McMurray is so oriented. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:03:01 That's exactly it. Yeah. And so how did you link up with Denison rib Fest?
Speaker 2 00:03:06 Actually, Dennis and I have been working together for five or six years. I started with him his toolbox.
Speaker 0 00:03:14 Oh, right. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:03:15 Okay.
Speaker 0 00:03:18 Nice. Nice.
Speaker 2 00:03:19 And it's just worked great. Ever since a lot of events with them, several different alternatives, all the red flags we've been with him.
Speaker 0 00:03:27 Yeah. Okay. So in regards to the rib Fest, if you've been here a few times, I haven't, I've eaten up all of these before, but I don't remember which one I ate at because people just put it all in kind of one box, room and eat. Do you have a favorite of these Brits? You do have favorite. Let's hear about it. Who should I go eat? I'm asking people that
Speaker 2 00:03:47 I have paid pretty close to the top too. Definitely my favorite.
Speaker 0 00:03:55 Okay. And so what are they known for that brisket? Do they have ribs? Is there a shortbread? What do we end up
Speaker 2 00:04:02 Touching?
Speaker 0 00:04:03 Okay. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:04:04 I like the sweeter Tangier red. Okay. They both have that. The other two are more like a smoky.
Speaker 0 00:04:15 Oh, I think I'm going with you. I think I'm going with you on that one. Okay. So those are the two that I should check out this weekend. Alright. Now going back to your company for a second, if people didn't need your service, how can they find you like website phone number?
Speaker 2 00:04:30 Yeah, absolutely. Um, we are 24 7. You can get us at any point in time and you'll always get one of our staff members. So it's local team. We're here every night. Um, our phone number again, it's the best way to get out. Um, you can reach out emails as well.
Speaker 0 00:04:52 Once
Speaker 2 00:04:54 I find it's the quickest as well, directly to one of us that can help.
Speaker 0 00:04:57 Right. So you said something that I thought was interesting peak. My curiosity, you said you can always get somebody here. Like at first I was like, what does that mean? And then you're like, no, we're local. We're in the community. Can you elaborate on that? Is that different with other organizations?
Speaker 2 00:05:10 A lot of companies out there where after hours, you're going to call and you'll get a call center. Oh,
Speaker 0 00:05:15 Okay.
Speaker 2 00:05:16 And they'll try and take a message and it could take a while to get somebody to give you a call back when we're calling they're in an emergency things either broke their flooded, you know, their basement, sewer in it situation. So when you call us, it is our local call center that will always get one of our project managers. Oh,
Speaker 0 00:05:41 Okay. That's awesome. How many, uh, people that you have on staff working with you
Speaker 2 00:05:46 Right now? We have approximately 20 on staff. Oh wow.
Speaker 0 00:05:49 That's huge. And that's everything from admin to assessment, to people who are going out and doing work.
Speaker 2 00:05:54 Yeah. Project managers, technician.
Speaker 0 00:05:57 That's phenomenal. Very cool. So you moved out here, you got this business, obviously you're successful. What keeps you in the community?
Speaker 2 00:06:07 I absolutely love it here. This is like home to me. Um, so I'm involved in a lot of things. Like we're involved with the hockey team up here, the oil parents, I play a lump darks and baseball. And
Speaker 0 00:06:24 What do you play? Dark side.
Speaker 2 00:06:26 I actually am on the board for the mix and the ladies. Oh,
Speaker 0 00:06:32 Okay. Okay, cool. Are you good at darts? You can throw it up. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:06:38 I'm okay.
Speaker 0 00:06:39 What's the dark scene look like in Fort McMurray in regards to participants, I've never like I've played in garages into my dad's basement, but I'd never been to a league
Speaker 2 00:06:46 Actually quite a busy thing. Several leaks in town. Of course, for locations
Speaker 0 00:06:51 And whatnot.
Speaker 2 00:06:53 I've always been a part of the one at the 10 I used to be downtown. And then you can call it that unfortunately get flooded. We've had to find another location and the den has definitely been great to us.
Speaker 0 00:07:05 Yeah. Very cool. How many people do you think are a part of that league? How many teams do you got roughly?
Speaker 2 00:07:10 Well, I think we have about 14 teams in our ladies league. Wow. That's awesome. We just started registration last week. So there still is opportunity to get in if you're
Speaker 0 00:07:23 Yeah, no doubt. And I'm assuming once again, phone number, website, Facebook, people can find you guys.
Speaker 2 00:07:29 Okay.
Speaker 0 00:07:31 And what's the name of the page?
Speaker 2 00:07:33 Uh, Fort McMurray. Mixed darts and Fort McMurray ladies.
Speaker 0 00:07:38 Yeah. That's cool. See, like, this is my favorite part about doing the show. There's so much stuff. Although I'm born and raised here in Fort McMurray, you don't, there's so much to do and you don't hear about everything. So yeah. I had no idea that it was a mixed dark league. That's very cool. All right. Well usually like we're at the part of the show where I'd swing it over to Tanner and say, Tanner, here's the Mac CD minute. And he'd ask you a bunch of questions, but because it was so loud, we decided to not do that. So I'm going to try to ask you some Tanner ish questions. So in advance for everybody at home and for Tanner, I apologize. Tanner is much better at that than I am. All right. So my first Tanner question to you would be how many different colors of hairstyles have you had
Speaker 2 00:08:22 Colors? Um, five.
Speaker 0 00:08:24 Five. Okay. What were the colors?
Speaker 2 00:08:28 Okay. That's the best answer ever periods. Don't actually always go the way you tried to rock it. Anyway. That's phenomenal. I've been crippled probably for three or four years. Okay.
Speaker 0 00:08:43 Yeah. My mom used to tell me purple is the color of royalty. Just throw it, throw it out there. There you go. All right. My next Tanner's question would be, as far as restaurants in Fort McMurray are concerned. What is your go-to restaurant to eat at?
Speaker 2 00:08:59 I got a couple say EDP and a keg.
Speaker 0 00:09:05 Okay. I'm just, I'm struggling with the Tanner question. So I'm just going to dovetail into at EVP and the keg. What would be your go-to orders?
Speaker 2 00:09:14 Uh, EDP. I really liked the zoodles. They're really good. They're my favorite. And just a good,
Speaker 0 00:09:21 There we go. Okay. In regards to your business, what would you say is the most rewarding part about owning a business locally in Fort McMurray,
Speaker 2 00:09:30 Helping people,
Speaker 0 00:09:32 Helping people,
Speaker 2 00:09:33 Getting their home back to the last
Speaker 0 00:09:35 Condition. Okay. All right. Okay. I like it. Okay. And my last Mac city minute Tanner style question would be we're here at a festival. We're listening to music, kind of music. Do you like listening to country? You're a country girl. Okay. There we go. Well then that's been your Mac CD minute, everybody at home. Hopefully I did as good as Tanner. I know I didn't, but uh, yeah. Now we're at the part of the show where it's all up to you. It's the end of the show. 20 minutes flew by. So now it's your opportunity to do a shameless plug or a shout out anything you want to promote or say, anybody want to say hi to the camera's on you? The Mike's on you. Take it off.
Speaker 2 00:10:12 I would like to say that poster of wishes, everybody happy labor day, weekend, and safe and healthy school year for the time.
Speaker 0 00:10:21 There we go. Awesome. Well, thank you very much for being on the show. I do appreciate it. Hopefully we'll have you on the set one of these days. I tell everybody, please come on the show again and again and again. So I know you were voluntold to do it today, so next time you can, uh, you can come on your own. That's great. Sweet. Thanks so much. Yeah. All right. Well, Fort McMurray with Buffalo in the rest of the world, that's been another episode of the Mac city morning show. Once again, thank you so much for tuning in it truly does mean the world to me. Hopefully you're having a great day and we'll see you tomorrow. Peace
Speaker 3 00:10:51 Y and deadly or Wade. And another morning show,
Speaker 1 00:10:55 talk about quenching your ugly thirsty.
