Speaker 0 00:00:00 So, yeah, you're up here, uh, doing a shoot for Greenlight creative. Uh you're down at heritage park. Yeah. So exactly. What does that shoot all about that you're doing?
Speaker 1 00:00:09 Uh, so we're doing, uh, a virtual tour of every little heritage, um, building our structure in there for, um, uh, for some elementary schools stuff. Um, it's really cool. I honestly had no idea that Fort Mac was so interesting because so before this, it was, it was, oh, it's, it's an oil town that, you know, that's four hours north. Uh, no, I had no idea that, um, there was just a dirt road going to Fort Mac just until like 30 years ago or that there was no electricity to the 1960s. It's crazy. I cannot believe it, but it's really cool. I'm glad that I came here. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:00:47 You know, when you're very cool. Now, before we get started, there's so many questions I have for you. You're going to be doing a lot of talking today. The first thing I want to talk about is your nickname. How did this Amanda start?
Speaker 2 00:00:59 Um, we were in man. We were really young and my like best friend Nikki was trying to call out to me one day and she just stuttered on my name and called me amunder and it stuck. My parents even call me amateur, my family, everyone. It's just
Speaker 0 00:01:18 That's. Yeah. That's how
Speaker 2 00:01:21 That, yeah. And it's, it's been true. Like even my little guy calls me I'm under.
Speaker 0 00:01:25 Yeah. So, okay. I know nothing about, um, the services whatsoever. So were you in Canada for the whole time? Were you deployed? How, like what, well, in the army, I, uh, I did do a fair bit of, uh, work overseas in, uh, Northern Europe, Norway in particular. Um, it was a cold war. It was the early eighties, a lot of work up in the Arctic gain Arctic. Um, then I got sent to a teaching combat school in Petawawa Ontario. I spent a couple of years teaching there and then, and I just had a, I had two children and I did some reflecting on my life and looking forward to seeing where I want it. We're wanting to go and we want it to be right. So on our phone recommendation, by my commanding officer, I applied for a commissioning to become an, an officer. And that's kinda how I segwayed into going to military college and becoming an officer Naval washer.
Speaker 0 00:02:20 Yeah. Okay. So you're doing that education now you've hit retirement age, which is extremely young. Um, did you have to go back to school to get your education degree or was that, so what happened just to back up a bit here? I, uh, I really had no intentions of leaving the military. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in my 20th year. So that kind of prevented me from continuing to be a Naval officer. Right. So the military assisted me in that transition from military to civilian life. And I'd already had a degree from military college, so I had to get a education degree. Yeah. So as part of my transition to civilian life, they did assist me in, uh, achieving the degree. So I went to KT university and got my education degree. Okay. And once I finished my degree, I officially left the military. Right. I started my life as a teacher now deduce yourself and tell everybody who you are and what you're about.
Speaker 3 00:03:11 Uh, hi. Yeah, I'm Willie. Uh, I'm a producer at Shaw spotlight and they also, uh, uh, I'm a youth pastor and, uh, and I do some stuff with, uh, district recording studio and Meinhardt camp kids, art stuff, uh, in the city. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:03:26 All right. Well, Willie, thank you very much for showing up today, man. Really do appreciate it. So, uh, that's what I live for to meet new people and find out about their story here in Fort Mac. Um, so on that note, as you guys know at this point, I don't introduce my guests because they do a much better job than I ever will. So can you please introduce yourself and tell everybody who you are? Hi, I'm my name is crystal and I am the chairperson for our special Olympics wood Buffalo. Very cool. There we go, crystal.
