Speaker 0 00:00:01 Morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I am your host, Elliot Pierre, and we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time. So the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me. So thank you on that note, Tanner hit him with the intro. Speaker 1 00:00:23 Oh, she caught me loves you're listening to the next any morning show. Speaker 0 00:00:32 All right. And we're back. Okay. We're just going to jump into it. Cause me and this guest can talk then I know we're going to go over. So let's just go into it, sir. I don't introduce my guests. So please introduce yourself to the people at home. Speaker 2 00:00:42 Everybody Bob McKay the operations manager for four seasons, moving towing and transport, um, for a very long time resident originally from Halifax and to the show before I had a blast. Last time I looked forward to this time. Speaker 0 00:00:53 There you go. So yeah, you're a, you're with four seasons now. So that's a nice little move for you. Change it. Yeah. Nothing wrong with that. There we go. So I want you to talk about the company. We'll definitely get into that at some point, but we were just having a conversation on something that we're just going to continue the conversation for the people at home. You're talking about happiness and I, it's one thing that you are hands down and it's one thing that I am, um, we're happy. And so let's just continue that theme because I think it's an important one in Fort McMurray because a lot of people do kind of measure their happiness level based on their bank account. Unfortunately, which I get it, I get it. You gotta have some money. Like money's stressful. You got to pay your bills, but that's not the definition of happiness. No. So let me hear, uh, how you keep grounded and happy, Speaker 2 00:01:38 Uh, like you and I were just talking about it. I just, one of the things I've been in Fort McMurray for a very long time had been through the highs and the lows and you know, and actually just had this conversation with a friend of mine just the other day. Uh, we met at, uh, aim rosary, but it was celebrating, being able to get out. Right. So that's it a big happy for a lot of people, but yeah, he said to me, he said, well, obviously he, and I've got a question. He said, how are you always have a smile on your face? And it's almost said, I, I measure my happiness by my success and my success by my happiness. I sit in this at all too often. We've seen that we're so focused on or what we have or what we have in the bank for bank yacht. Speaker 2 00:02:13 And then we say, oh, I'm happy. Cause I got X amount of dollars, but what did you have to do to get there? Right. So, you know, really, I, I told him <inaudible> not to be sound like some kind of profound, prolific guy that knows everything. But I said, I just, I've learned I'm going to be 52 this July and not an old man, but you know, you make your, your positives and your negatives for your life. And it just, I've learned that we got to really look at truly what is making us happy. And, and part of it is even this change that I made to four seasons moving, it's just, it was one of those things. I had a great job before. It was a phenomenal Pieper people. Sorry. Um, great position. But what I truly like doing is helping people. So one of the best things for me to make me happy was to go to this new company because that's what makes me happy. Speaker 2 00:02:57 Give them an opportunity to help out, see if I can inject little bit of Bob into it. Right. And see if he can help him. So I told him that, I said, it's not a boat. You know what some, but I'm being paid. Or if I get there, I know, Hey look, I know that helps living a Fort back. We all know that helps. Yeah. But we do truly have to look at how we feel at the end of the day. And or we're sitting on the edge of the bed in the morning. How do we feel? But before we do that first, we'll be standing up because we want to just getting up because we have to that's right. Speaker 0 00:03:22 That's right. Yeah. That's a big one. Like I wake up every morning, I'm pumped legitimately. I'm excited. Like there are days where you wake up and you're like, I'm still tired. Or like, I got to do stuff. I'm not saying like I wake up on top of the moon every day. Nope. In regards to what I have to get done. But I'm excited that I'm up and I'm excited for, what's about to transpire. And there's so many, the one thing that drives me nuts and it's just so common is, uh, people like, oh, I just can't wait for the weekend. And that's a, like, anytime anybody says that to me like, whoa, whoa, whoa. The weekends only two days, your week is five. Like you can't be wishing away your time. Like if you're wishing away five days out of your week, you need to reevaluate what you're doing and start to enjoy those five days. Don't worry. Don't like go through life, wishing time away for the weekend. Oh, it's a statement that just drives Speaker 2 00:04:20 Me. It is true. Because like I say again, 52, this July and a lot of days, I don't feel like I'm 52. I, I tend to want to still celebrate and enjoy life. Right. And, but I tell my kids because my daughter, she just turned 20 and my son's 28. And I just tell him, you know, it's, it's amazing. I remember 20. And it just, it just like gone. Right. Is that it's that quickly. And I even look at this week, like today is June 15th. Yeah. I mean, it's like, we're going to have a month ago. That's right. You know? So it is like, you know, we do have to celebrate the day, Speaker 3 00:04:52 The day we had half the year ago. Yeah, Speaker 2 00:04:55 Exactly. Brother. Yeah. So I mean, that's what I mean, like is this, I hear the same thing now, mind you, I am a weekend camper. So there is things I looked forward to on the weekend, but I would never say, I want to get rid of this week to get to that because of the fact like, you know, when we're done here today, I'm going to go back and I'm working with my crew, working on a few things on how to train and stuff together. So yeah. No, it is learning man. When I, when I sit yeah, just bed, I got my two dogs there, but it is, I get up with vigor and I'm ready to go. Right. So Speaker 0 00:05:23 Yeah. No, the wishing away, it's crazy. You can look forward to the weekend. Yep. Just don't wash away your time. Speaker 2 00:05:28 A hundred percent. Sure. Where are your time? How often does kids like you look at teenagers. I can't wait till I turn 18 so I can drink or it's so funny. Cause I'm in my, like both of my kids and I turned 18. Well, especially my son, when we came up from Nova Scotia, he arrived. You're 18 years old and Nova Scotia. It's 19. He's he told his buddies back home look, man, I got to, and he had the, the, the crappiest kind of beer he could ever have. I forget what the brand was like $8 for 12. But anyway, he was all excited. But I know often in their teens, we, our life away. Right. I think as we get more mature, we get to realize that time is a gift. Speaker 0 00:06:02 Yeah. That's it. It's, it's finite. It's long, but you got to enjoy every second. I remember when I turned 18, my dad's not a drinker. He does not like the booze on the set. Yeah. He's not a drinker. So when I turned 18, I was like, I'm going to the bar. And he's like, no, no, you can't go to the bar tonight. We're going to where we're going tomorrow. I said, where are we going tomorrow? He's like Edmonton. I was like, why are we going to Edmonton? There was no reason. There was no reason. He just didn't want me to go out. So he's like, we're going. And I was like, well, you know what? I can do both. And he was just like, all right. So my birthday's in February. So, uh, the next day I go out Boston pizza partied up for my 18th birthday. And the next day he wakes me up promptly at like seven o'clock. Hey, it's time to go. I'm not ready to get, I'm not going to go. So we get in the car and I'm dressed for February. Whether I'm dressed, warm, winter jacket, all this stuff on. Right. We got in the car, this man ranks the heat Speaker 3 00:06:59 Man. And Speaker 0 00:07:00 Then he's a fast driver on a good day. So on a bad day. So he just volume accelerates I'm in the back of my seat. And it was the roughest ride to Edmonton I've ever had. I'm like, dad, can you like slow down? Maybe not hit the brakes much and turn down the heat. He's like, I will do none of the above and you better not throw up. Speaker 3 00:07:19 It was worth it. So yeah. So that was, that's my 18th Speaker 0 00:07:24 Memory of Fort Fort McMurray, Alberta. But yeah, it's, it's crazy when you live out of province though. Yeah. Like another drinking story. My parents are going to love this episode. I'm 18. And uh, I've been drinking in Fort McMurray and we went to Toronto for the Demauria opened the Roger's classic tennis. And I'm so excited. I'm with my cousins and I can drink now. And I go to the beer garden. I'm just like, Hey, can I get like eight beer for me and my family? And the guy's like, yeah, sure. I need to see your ID. So he pours it all out and I show him my ID and he's like, dude, why does he get 19 here? I'm like, oh. So then with my tail behind my legs, I have to go walk back to the seats and get my mom. And my mom's like, okay, he can buys the beer. And I'm like, Ugh, it's not that one year. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:08:13 It's a tough one. It is. Uh, I, as I, I guess to share my final drinking story, I I've always been a big guys. You can love your viewers can see, I'm not a small man. I'm six foot four, a little over 300 pounds and always been a big dude and football and stuff. And so anyway, I used to get into bars as, from 16 on and never questioned. My dad always said to me, he said, well said, that's one thing to remember if you ever get in trouble, call me. Right. And there's one time I was 16 years old and was at a bar downtown Halifax. And I was done. I was done like dinner. So the point that the bouncers wouldn't let me back in bed. So I called my dad up and God love them. 3:00 AM. He comes and picks me up on the side of the road and got her in the street. Speaker 2 00:08:52 That's awesome. And uh, gets me home next at 6:00 AM and wakes me up, uh, sausage, bacon, eggs, and heavy butter. Like he had all the greasiest foods for me and stuff. I was like, well, what the heck are you doing here man? And he says, you'll learn some that greasy food helps. And I was like, that was kind of my first lesson learned by dad for drinking. But I mean, I'll never forget that ever goes God love. And he was there. I was, we were going across the McDonald bridge, going from Halifax to Dartmouth. And I had to get him to pull over on the side of the bridge. Yeah. Yeah. Certain reasons. Speaker 3 00:09:22 Reasons. Yeah. That's the view. Yeah, that's Speaker 2 00:09:27 Right. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So it was just funny. I mean, it's, it's funny how things are, but Speaker 0 00:09:32 Good lesson. Yeah. Now you just said something we've never spoken about before. Cause I like, and you are a big man. There's no doubt about that. We've never talked about you in sports. Yeah. Oh, here's gonna go to high school. What kind of sports did you? I was Speaker 2 00:09:44 A football player as a linesman and foot on the football team there. And actually it's kind of a funny story I got done again. I was always a big dude in high school. I don't know it's from, I remember my mom, my mom told me it was in grade seven and I was this little dude. Like I was like maybe five foot one, blah, blah, blah. Speaker 3 00:10:00 Anyway, within a year. Yeah. Oh wow. But Speaker 2 00:10:03 Within a year I went from five foot, one to six foot. Wow. So anyway, um, we went through junior high, they get to high school at Princeton pretender high school. And I was just walking in the hallway and the coach just grabbed me. He said, uh, he said, young father. I said, yes, sir. He said, uh, he said, do you play, you do anything? I said, all right, really man. Like you're not in any sports or anything. I'm not really. And he said, I need you on the football team. So anyway I did, I joined and uh, and literally we went over rivals was Dartmouth high school and there was a pitcher and I wish I could find him. My mom has the clipping of it. Anyway, I'm literally running down the field and I got two guys hanging off of me as I'm running on that side. Speaker 2 00:10:41 It was in the Chronicle Herald newspaper there. And, uh, it was just hilarious because my mom showed it to me years ago. Again, she said, you remember this because these guys like, here's this guy. And at that time I was six. I was six foot, two, six foot three. And these guys were like little dudes and they're literally hanging. Obviously I loved it. I, I played it only because like I said, I'm not a sports guy. I don't watch sports on TV. I just got into it. Some of my friends, man, they could tell you how many times an athlete PS, a day type deal. I like watching just to watch. Yeah, that was my kind of foray into the sports back then. And I played soccer a bit like at there. Um, goalie is a soccer and soccer. But other than that though, just that, that was kind of my foray into the sports role. But my kids, I always, I always said, look, you want to get into if you have adder, but it's not good maintain this girlish figure. I played Speaker 0 00:11:29 Sports. There you go. I have to stop Speaker 3 00:11:32 Thinking of your girlish figure. We are hanging Speaker 0 00:11:34 Out this weekend and uh, you have something that's going to be horrible for that figure of yours. You are making don't errors now don't you got a spinner on the go. Let's talk about this Speaker 2 00:11:47 Away for Christmas. Bought me my own commercial don't air spinner thing to see in the, in the local pizza shops. So being a guard from Halifax, I was, I had that desire that need for the good old Halifax don't air. So anyway, um, I, I dove into the experience or last weekend or weekend before last, sorry. And I make my own air beat my ground in our sauce. And so a sweet sauce. And it's funny because a friend of mine said to me, he said, Bob, this is probably one of the hardest things to do. So it literally took me a half hour. And because the main ingredients is we used the Carnation of our bread and milk, sugar, um, garlic and vinegar. Okay. And literally the vinegar, just putting in like a little, like a half a teaspoon every time just, and all of a sudden I was just myself and my wife and they listen to bam. That was it. It was like that's Halifax sauce. Speaker 2 00:12:36 It was really cool that we got that there. We had a, I did three pounds of hamburger. I did the whole, the mix of all the spices and everything there. And I had a group of, uh, uh, probably 10 people there. And everybody was just like, these are amazing. So now it's an expectation that that's a staple. Every time I go down to my camper and wandering river that, so I had requests could just save some and bring it back to Fort Mac when he come back and I've made a commitment to a few people that I am. So I'm going to try it over the things we're going to try this week here, I'm mixing pork with ground beef, then, um, I've done. The next thing I looked up doing a chicken one. So yeah, this is going to get done, but I didn't realize, I love to cook. Speaker 2 00:13:14 I love just to experiment. And this is the experience of cooking and it's then the, the, the, the joy, seeing people's faces when they taste something really good. That's right. That's right. But yeah, the donor's was, I had everything because I think about it. I bought a commercial griddle and so, um, so let me, I take the, I take the Peter bread and put it in the water, put it in the grill, put the cap over top of the steam, the bread. And everybody was like, man, this is dope. Yeah, no doubt. It sounds like Speaker 4 00:13:39 We need to come over for a Meilleur. Oh yeah. We're definitely going to make the trip. All of these industrial grade Speaker 3 00:13:45 Cookware. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:13:48 So you were making donors. You're not putting on pizza yet. You haven't Speaker 2 00:13:51 Crossed out. We went down to Costco. We saw, they have that little propane brick pizza oven thing. I was like, yeah, I know. Cause I do have you might've saw two on my Facebook. I got that new, a tent that I built and it's 13 by 26. So we got to not only have the area to set up a whole outdoor kitchen. Speaker 3 00:14:11 Yeah, no I'm coming out in your outdoor kitchen. Yeah. Yeah. It's pretty sweet. Sweet man. Really Speaker 0 00:14:17 Is fun. Halifax says, has been banging donors. I have to say like I love Fort McMurry gentleman because that's my go-to Speaker 3 00:14:25 Cosmos love cosmos. Like all the groups here, they do a great job. They do a Speaker 0 00:14:29 Great job, but there's something about the donor meat in Halifax, especially when you go to pizza corner. Speaker 2 00:14:35 Well, there's where there's actually, there's a place on lady Hammond roads called bash. Selenis so bash family is actually the first ones, but I understand I might be wrong. But yeah, what I understand is they're the ones that actually brought down here, meet the Halifax. Oh, okay. And he initially used to do a mix of lamb and beef and, but everything he does is just amazing, amazing flavors. And he actually, they have a show at Christmas time in Nova Scotia. It's a kind of fundraising as well. Christmas daddies. Yeah. And every year he does this ginormous pizza pizza and uh, for, for people to raffle off at everybody. Yeah. His, his, to me in, in, in Nova Scotia being from there is the best hands down. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:15:15 Okay, good. Yeah. No, it's good. But I will say this format. Sweet sauce is how facts can't touch Fort Mac. Sweet sauce, period. Sorry, Halifax. Can't do it. But if I could combine those two, I'll sample yours on that note. Speaker 4 00:15:33 Do you need to bring out sweet sauce to the east coast? Speaker 0 00:15:37 I did. I, I, wasn't going to tell that story, but I did. So I used to travel a lot for work, uh, to the east coast and listen, how fax has great donors. I can't, and don't eat pizza. I love, but their sweet sauce. Isn't hidden. And most people like to Zeke you over there. They're sorry if you're on that team anyways, uh, I used to go to was here in Fort McMurray and get a few sweet sauces and wrap them up tight. Put them in the suitcase and yeah, go to Halifax. And I have the donor pizza with the Fort Mac donor sauce. That's how ridiculous I am about my food. Speaker 2 00:16:15 Yeah. I actually, I do find that this Scotia is a bit too garlicky, right? Yeah. That's right. Well, I like the sharpest sensor like this and as that and the vinegar, a little bit of sharpness, you get a little zing, but it's still smooth. Right? Speaker 0 00:16:28 I'm excited to come out and try your stuff. I'm not gonna lie. And I don't want you to bring it back. I want to try it again. Speaker 2 00:16:33 I even get electric life now, man. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:16:35 Oh, I'm coming out. Good deal on that. No Tanner, uh, let's do the Mac city minute with our guests. Hit them up. Speaker 4 00:16:41 All right. Question number one. Why do you choose to drink blueberry vodka? Speaker 3 00:16:48 Well, I don't, my wife does these questions. Speaker 2 00:16:52 Yeah. I don't know. But my wife, she is a, like a hardcore, I forget the name. It was a Russian blueberry vodka. She is hardcore water and ice and not there, but it Speaker 4 00:17:00 Happened to be still. Yeah, it is. Speaker 3 00:17:04 Wow. Speaker 4 00:17:07 Question number two. What is something that gets you excited to wake up in the morning? Something Speaker 2 00:17:14 That gets me excited in the morning is my dogs. Uh, cause they they're there. I'll tell you man, for the cheer squad, when I wake they're the two of them looking at me, they're just so excited to see me awake. And I would dare say, man, like at that moment, that truly is like, I'm like, that's my happy spot right there. Because the chill dog is so excited to see be up. So yeah. Speaker 4 00:17:34 Question number three. What was your favorite part of going to Las Vegas with uptown dance? Speaker 2 00:17:41 Last part was actually the experience of walking down the street with two beers in my hand. And there's a store there. You can buy that. You can buy two at the ABC store to go buy two tallboys for five bucks. Right? I felt like I was in heaven, walking down a slide here, know, gone love the kids that did a wonderful job, but you know, I, I was happy to buy two cans of beer, a double fist. And there was awesome, simple Speaker 4 00:18:04 Things in life. Yes. Question number four. What is your go-to late night snack when you're out camping, Speaker 2 00:18:12 Camping is definitely the hot dog over the fire or grilled cheese sandwiches and the little cookers over the fire. Nothing better than having a good fire roasted grilled cheese sandwich. Speaker 3 00:18:22 I've never had one of those. Oh, they're good. Speaker 2 00:18:25 You got it. That'll be the other thing. Don't hurry. Be an grilled cheese there. All right. And Speaker 4 00:18:29 Your final question. If you could camp in one place, where would that be? Know my Speaker 2 00:18:35 Happy space truly is wandering over. Um, the cool thing is that the it's two hours away. So it sounds far, but it's not. So if something does happen, I can come back. But it's far enough away that you say you're, you're not home. That's right. And just, uh, again, you guys will see when you visit me. I have quite a little utopia built there and mind you, I have camped all over. We've kept all over Canada and truly brought the experience at as to the friends we have there. And there were acquaintances we made and friends we've made down there. I wouldn't camp anywhere else. Speaker 4 00:19:05 Here we go. Those have been your five questions. Thanks brother. Speaker 0 00:19:08 We're on a time. But before we go, I got to talk about this grilled cheese. So I don't know if you've seen the movie chef. No, you've never seen the movie chef and you love to cook. Oh man. You need to go home and watch chef with John Fabro in it. It's an amazing movie. And John Leguizamo, I don't know if you know who he is. He's a classic old school, nineties comedian anyways, great movie. But in this movie he makes a grilled cheese sandwich as a chef. And so I went and I looked up, it looks amazing to make this grilled cheese sandwich. You need to go out and buy $50 worth of cheese. And it's like a whole bunch of it's a, I didn't make it as good as he did. I have no doubt about that, but it is delicious. So I'm a big grill cheese guy, but I didn't ever even thought about making a grilled cheese over. Speaker 2 00:19:54 So what we do is he is a thing. Don't think that we have to cast our in sandwich press. So it's on a handle, the holder of the fire, but we use like butter, both sides of bread. And then we put habanero cheese and they put onto the 10, a little bit of bacon in there. And then some more cheese on top of that butter sizzle. As you're sitting there, you hear that over the fire. Oh man, you take it out and you drop it. It's just, it didn't even get the flavor of the wood and everything on there. It's just tremendous. It is. It's so funny. Cause my wife straight up, my wife will not eat a grilled cheese sandwich off the pan, but she will eat them up to vile. Speaker 0 00:20:28 Wow. You can't tell at home, especially cause this mask is all my mouth. Isn't real water. So we gotta make that happen. All right, Bob, we're at the end of the show. I know. Thank you very much for coming in again. I know this will not be your last appearance on the show, but before you go, there needs to be a shameless plug for the new organization. Please tell everybody at home once about how they can support. Speaker 2 00:20:50 Yeah. So now folks, I'm sure you heard of us before, but we're always, we're growing. We're getting to where we're putting new processes in place, but it's four seasons moving transport and towing a local built company. Uh, it's been here for quite a few years now. I joined the team there. I'm injecting. Like I said earlier, just a little bit of Bob into it and uh, I'm running an operation or now for, for the company. So you're going to see some dramatic new improvements, some changes. Uh, we're very proud to tell everybody that we're just been Corp certified, which means certificate of recognition for our safety model of safety standards. Um, we're doing a lot of things and we're, I'm very excited about it. So like I said, I invite you to visit us on we're on Facebook, both the moving in and the transport and towing on Facebook, look us up there. But again, they were really excited to be there. Like I said, because the cool thing is it's kind of like that piece of clay that I'm really molding. I want to take them to the next level. So, uh, you know, we're a local company of supporters. That's what we're all about. Right? Speaker 0 00:21:41 No sweep, four seasons moving and transport. All right, well Fort Macquarie, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world, that's been another episode of the Mac city morning show. Thank you so much for tuning in. It really does mean the world to me. Hopefully you're having a great day and we'll see you tomorrow. Peace. Speaker 5 00:22:16 Talk about quenching your ugly thirst.
