Speaker 0 00:00:01 Murray wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I'm your host, Elliot Pierre. And we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time. So the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me. So thank you on that note, Tanner. Speaker 1 00:00:21 Oh, she caught me, loves near listen to the next. Speaker 0 00:00:30 All right. We're back. Today's going to be a fun episode. I'm a big energy person. This, uh, this lady is full of energy, a lot of positive vibes. I'm really excited. Hopefully you guys are excited too. As you know, I do not introduce my guests. I let them do that themselves. So on that note, can you please introduce yourself and tell people who you are? Hi, Speaker 2 00:00:48 I'm Melissa Thompson and I'm a one half of the BFM homes team with Coldwell banker. There you go. Well, thank you very much for coming. Thank you for having me. So Speaker 0 00:00:56 We, uh, we bumped into each other at the golf course. Uh, last week you guys had a hole there. What was that whole all about? It seemed like, Speaker 2 00:01:06 So it was, uh, the drink at beaches hole and we were just, uh, w we were raising money for the junior golf. And so it was beat the pro. So they had to like, no, I'm not very good with golf, but get the ball closest to the hole against the pro. And if you win, or if you lost, you had to donate to the, to the doomy golf. And if you won, well, everybody got a free drink, so yeah, everybody's winning. Speaker 0 00:01:31 It was a lot of fun. And you guys had like a photo booth that you'd take pictures of it. Yeah. Yeah. We Speaker 2 00:01:34 Had like all beach themed and flamingos. It was good. Speaker 0 00:01:38 It was a good day. And the weather held up too. There was no rain, so that's a Speaker 2 00:01:42 Big thing. It was good. It was like, perfect. And they were right against the river. Speaker 0 00:01:47 Yeah, it was. So, you know, I've bumped into each other numerous times. We know a lot of the same people, but we haven't really ever had a chance to sit down and chat. So I'm excited for you being here. Um, my first question for you and my first question for everybody, when I first meet them, is where are you from? Speaker 2 00:02:01 I'm from BC actually. So I grew up in the Northern interior, 40 James. It's just like, it's a really small town, just north of France storage. Okay. And Speaker 0 00:02:12 Prince George is a really north, well, it's like Speaker 2 00:02:14 In the middle, it's kind of like comparable to Edmonton, but in BC. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Okay. 14 John. I am. There we go. Yes, I am sorry. Um, and then I moved to Vancouver when I was, I think, like 18 and then came here after eight years. Speaker 0 00:02:28 Oh, okay. Yeah. So when you were in Vancouver, what were you doing there? Oh, Speaker 2 00:02:32 This just be bopping around, you know, going to music. Shows Speaker 0 00:02:37 Music shows. Okay. Yeah. We were chatting a little bit about this before. Um, you and Tanner definitely listened to more similar music than I do. Yeah. So when you say going to music shows, what kind of music Speaker 2 00:02:47 Shows where you go? I did, I did a lot of like raves and went to club shows a lot of metal shows. I went to like graves when they were still in like pizza parlors, undergrad. Yeah. I might've just aged myself. Speaker 0 00:02:59 Well, that's what we were just talking about in regards to the rave scene now is very different from what it was when Ali and myself mold. Um, I remember when I had friends, when I was like between the ages of probably 12 and 15, who were going to raves and they were going to Edmonton and Calgary and it was because like, their parents felt that like, okay, there's no alcohol here. It's for kids because there's no alcohol. However, while there's other things that take place at raves. Um, and nowadays I think most adults know like, yeah, but yeah, they've evolved. Definitely. I mean, we've gone into Speaker 2 00:03:31 These huge like productions. It's pretty cool. Some of them like just the energy that they give off. It's pretty unreal. Speaker 0 00:03:38 Yeah. So do you still get a chance to go to these types of, Speaker 2 00:03:41 Well, I'm a mom now, so I really haven't had that much of a chat plus COVID so I think the last one I went to was like Dr. Fresh, probably like two, three years ago. Speaker 0 00:03:51 That's still pretty recent though. Like, okay, look, it's Tanner's wowing. You know what, when she went to, of Speaker 3 00:03:58 Course I knew who Dr. Fresh is, if you know, EDM or dubstep, you know, Dr. Fresh, he's an OG. Okay. Speaker 0 00:04:03 So what, so Tanner uses all these words that I don't know most of the time. I know what O G Speaker 2 00:04:10 Stands for, what the heck is like, I still don't know Speaker 0 00:04:14 What you eat is somebody told me this weekend. Um, I am Simpkin and I've heard it in songs. And I'm like simple. I ain't no simp. I was like, what the heck is a simp? Like, I wouldn't know. But you know what it means though? Yeah, no, I don't want the definition on show. It might mean something that I don't want, but it's Speaker 3 00:04:35 Just somebody who dedicates an unnecessary amount of time to a certain person, Speaker 4 00:04:39 Um, with nothing in return. Speaker 0 00:04:45 There's nothing bad about that. But I don't know. Sometimes these youngsters hit me up with some slang. Speaker 2 00:04:51 Where does this even come from? How is it a thing? Speaker 5 00:04:55 Yeah. What do you not understand? All of it in conjunction, EDM Speaker 3 00:05:01 Is electric dam electric. Well, it depends how you define it, but electric dance, music, or electric developed music. Some people have different terms, but you also eat then dubstep is just the genre of the music. Okay. Speaker 0 00:05:16 Now with the kid on like that you have now young, young kid, right? Like under two years old, 15 months. 15 months. Yeah. What kind of music do you listen Speaker 2 00:05:25 To around your child? Same. He's got there 30 dances and fist pumps. It's pretty funny. He like, he bobs his head and he'll be eating something and then just, yeah, yeah. In the neck and shape Speaker 5 00:05:37 Early, right? Yeah. That they get that neck in shape. Speaker 0 00:05:42 I had to change up my whole music listening experience when I had a kid, because I listen to rap. I love rap music, hip hop. Like I love it. Even R and B. And, um, the thing about my little guys, he listens to the, yeah. Okay. And so when I was listening to rap, like I'd listened and I would listen to like, uh, clean music, um, clean rap, but you could still hear they're saying swears. And he was about three and one, a little Wayne songs came on and little Wayne was saying what the F though. So you're saying, and my brother-in-law was in the car with his wife and you're driving and the song came on and my little guy was like, oh, I love this song. It's so funny. And everybody looks at him like, why is it so funny? And he's like, this guy can't pronounce his F's. You know what I'm saying though? Though? And my wife looked at me and I was just like, yeah. Okay. No more, no more clean wrap. So then I started listening to hip hop and not hip hop, sorry, R and B from like the nineties. But some of the, like the lyrics, especially with Janet Jackson are like super explicit. And so he started like, anyways, so now I can only listen to like classic rock and Speaker 2 00:06:57 Roll when he's, that's funny, when I was actually pregnant, we went to, uh, San Francisco to watch Metallica with the symphony. And it was the coolest show ever, but he had just started developing his hearing. So like, I always wonder I'm like, did you get to hear that? Because that would have been pretty cool. You know? Yeah. Speaker 0 00:07:16 So do you guys listen to a lot of music around like your household? Speaker 2 00:07:18 Oh yeah. Yeah. Nice. Always music. I'm always driving. It's always music. Speaker 0 00:07:23 So that's awesome. So he's getting a lot of experience exposure Speaker 2 00:07:27 For sure. And like, he, we have a piano at the house and I'll always like, just turn it on. He's just like blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue. Speaker 0 00:07:33 That's awesome. That's fantastic. So at a 15 years old or 15 months old, sorry, your life has changed dramatically from what it was. Oh, what's your favorite part about being a mom? Speaker 2 00:07:47 Probably like when you go to wake him up in the morning and he just sees you and he just smiles and it's just like, oh, like anything that's hard is just completely melted away with that smile. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:07:57 No doubt. No, that's awesome. Now you're super busy. You and your team at Coldwell. Um, I see you guys all, all over the place. Um, maybe volunteering your time online with the sale, uh, things on the lawn. How do you find balancing that? Speaker 2 00:08:16 Well, to be honest, I'm still trying to figure it out. Um, it's tough. It's very hard. I was so naive to think like, oh, well, you know, I'm going to work from home and it's going to be easy. Like, oh my God, like how silly of me, but I just recently found that a day home for him to go to. And he, and he seems to really like it. So that has helped tremendously. Um, but it's just, I guess, and I have a lot of help at home too. Like if my mom lives with us. Oh yeah. So, I mean, like, I honestly probably wouldn't be able to do that with, without Speaker 0 00:08:47 That's right. I was just going to ask about that in regards to, so you helping me out in regards to the questions. So you were in BC and your is here. Um, do you have a lot of family here or Speaker 2 00:08:57 Sister everybody's still in BC, so it's just my mommy, Bob. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the baby, there you Speaker 0 00:09:05 Go. So she came out primarily for this or was she here prior Speaker 2 00:09:08 To she had, well, she has six kids and they, yeah. Brothers and sisters and my dad. Yes. My dad has his own family too. Cause they separated. Right. So 10 siblings. Wow. But there's nine siblings. 10 total of us, right? Speaker 0 00:09:28 Yeah. That's so cool. You don't hear that nowadays? Speaker 2 00:09:31 No, it's definitely a rarity for sure. It's so expensive to have kids. And I'm like, oh, how did you have Speaker 0 00:09:38 Six that's right. So she came out to help her. Was she here? Speaker 2 00:09:41 Well, no. So her, her kids were all grown up and it was, um, you know, she would had an empty nest. So I was like, you know, I'm like, why don't you come up here to work? And then things happened. And so now she's in school to be a massage therapist. Speaker 0 00:09:54 Oh, very cool. Yeah. That's neat. That's pretty cool for her, Speaker 3 00:09:59 Anybody to, uh, practice on. I'm always available. She actually does. There we go. Hey, listen, we'll book some appointments hook you up. So Speaker 0 00:10:13 Up with six siblings, you're the eldest of the six. So from age range, you're up here. What was the youngest in the household Speaker 2 00:10:21 At the time? Um, oh my God. I don't even know. He just graduated and he just turned, I think Speaker 0 00:10:33 So a big gap. It's a big gap. Yeah. So what was that like growing up in a household like that that's Speaker 2 00:10:37 Pretty chaotic. Yeah. Um, but I mean like in the best possible way, I don't think I could, like, I can't imagine, like not having a big family, right. Speaker 0 00:10:47 Those things for myself. I grew up in a family of three, so I have two younger siblings. And um, I just remember in my house growing up, it was always loud. Like somebody was always, somebody had friends over my mom loved listening to music. So there was always like Caribbean or soca music going. My dad would always be watching movies and he's a sound enthusiast. So he had subwoofers and speakers. And so there was, there was always like just noise and that's what I grew up with. And that was my norm. And now it's only me, my wife and my kid. And she didn't grow up loud like me. So my house is always quiet and it freaks me Speaker 2 00:11:27 Out. I can't have a quiet house. We have a Bob's dad visiting up right now. And he's like, he likes things quiet. And I'm just like, ah, like turn it off. Weird. Speaker 0 00:11:39 And the discussion with my sister, Alicia about it because her husband and her little daughter are the same. It's quiet in their house more often than not. And like, she just reached out and we were just chatting. Yeah. It freaks me out. It's taking time to get used to it. And I'm like, yeah, I like it loud. But every time I tried to turn on music, like my kids, like dad, I'm trying to do something. Or my wife is just like, it's so loud in here. Like, can you turn that off? Like, no, I liked, I liked the atmosphere, but so you guys are still keeping that alive in your house with the music going all the time. That's awesome. Bobby, what kind of music is Bobby? Speaker 2 00:12:16 He likes that he really likes like the, um, like Waylon, um, and like the old outlaw country. And which is like, I'm, I'm not the hugest fan of country. I'll tolerate it, you know? And then, but he likes a lot of metal too. We have common. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:12:36 He doesn't look like a raver. I can't see him going to these concerts. No, no. Speaker 5 00:12:41 Yeah. He would sure. Stand out. Speaker 0 00:12:45 He's so tall. Yeah. He would fit in at like a Metallica concert. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:12:50 We've gotten to that. I took him to, um, cause he had never seen black label society before a, I got him, uh, tickets to that surprise him for one of his Christmas presents. And it was a, it was a good time. Zach wild was like standing like right on the bar, like right in front of us. And like, I could've touched his butt. That's how close. And he's just like, just go to town. <inaudible> Speaker 0 00:13:20 Now in regards to your career, real estate, what's happening in the market right now? What's going on? Speaker 2 00:13:25 Well, it's been pretty crazy. We've had a really low inventory levels and like we've also had really, uh, low interest rates. So it's had kind of created this frenzy of buyers wanting to buy, but there's nothing to buy. Right. So like I'm waiting and wait, like I'm waiting on the computer, hitting, refresh, waiting for new things for my buyer. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:13:49 If anybody's out there and you're thinking of like, Hey, maybe I should sell my house. It's Speaker 2 00:13:52 Okay. It's a good time. Yeah. Cool. Consider it strongly Speaker 0 00:13:55 Nice. Now Tanner already hitting me. Like we're just, the show was just chatting and sometimes it gets out of control, but Tanner just told me, Hey, it's my turn. So this is part of the show where we'll do the maxi minute it's standard segment. So he's gonna hit you up with some questions best of luck down. Or hit her up with the a minute Speaker 3 00:14:12 Question. Number one. What is one EDM artist? You want to see that you haven't? Speaker 4 00:14:17 Ooh. Sullivan king Speaker 3 00:14:20 Question number two. What is the most memorable moment from selling houses in Fort McMurray that you have? Speaker 2 00:14:30 I think this, the best part is doing closing days. Cause it's always the same. Like everyone's so happy Speaker 3 00:14:36 Question. Number three. What is one way you like to spend an evening in Fort McMurray, outside having some drinks, eating some barbecue question number four. What is your go-to song to jam when you're alone? Speaker 2 00:14:54 It really changes. So right now it's a September cry for you. Speaker 3 00:14:58 And your final question. What is your favorite part of moving to Fort McMurray? The people and those have been your five questions. Speaker 0 00:15:07 Here we go. Let's talk about barbecue for a second. Have you ever been to a restaurant in Edmonton called meat? No. What have you heard about it? Okay. Next time you're in Edmonton. It's right off white app. So it's like on white avenue. You just go down a corner. I think it's widened Jasper or maybe, I don't know. It's closer to Jasper trail. It's like at the end of white avenue, the cool part of white avenue. It's a pretty long street, but uh, it's just all barbecue. Like brisket. Speaker 3 00:15:36 The address is 8 2 1 6, 100 fourth street Northwest. Speaker 0 00:15:40 So there we go. Thank you data. If you like barbecue, you need to check this place out. It's amazing. Love barbecue, all meat, all meat. The only thing on the menu that I think is not like they have like a cornbread and stuff too. So that's not my taste. Delicious corn bread, fried chicken breasts. What about a salad? I was gonna say there's no veggies. You can get 'em. What are those big green things called? Um, no, um, there's they're round now. We're going to go through all of these vegetables. What was it? Just like a round green thing. Speaker 5 00:16:18 Round green vegetables. Green vegetable. Speaker 0 00:16:21 About the size of your apples right there. Yeah. I don't know. You have some vegetables there, but it's the place to go. If you like barbecue. Speaker 2 00:16:29 It's says I'm going to have to actually check that out. We have, I have tickets for the imagined that sprouts, Brussels sprouts. I love Speaker 0 00:16:38 They bang and Brussels preps. Tanner. Thanks for coming. You have tickets to what? Speaker 2 00:16:42 Uh, imagine van Gogh. So it's just like a light up ex exhibit of all the mangoes are. Oh, I'm like thinking it's going to blow my little baby's mind lights and stuff. So hopefully we can go check out meat while we're there. There Speaker 0 00:16:55 You go. Definitely do it. If you like barbecue, it's worth the trip. I was in Chicago one time and I went to a Vincent van Gogh exhibit in the museum there. It was breathtaking. Very cool. But it wasn't like lit up and stuff. That would be amazing. So once that happened, Speaker 2 00:17:10 Um, it just got announced. It was, uh, postponed a lot through that because of the restrictions. Tickets are like mid July. I got to go check that out today. Yeah, totally. Huh? Speaker 0 00:17:23 I'm going to look that up. Tanner. I were horrible memory. One of us needs to remember that. Remember what? Imagine Vango. I would love to see that. Yeah. Very cool. Yeah. I'm looking forward to it. So listen, that's it. 20 minutes finish. I know I'm saying so, uh, please come back again. We got way more to talk about than Speaker 2 00:17:43 We've covered here. I enjoyed my time here. Thank you. Thank you. Speaker 0 00:17:46 So before you leave though, everybody gets a shameless shout. So you can plug anything. You want your business yourself, shout anything out. This is your time to shine. So Speaker 2 00:17:55 Yeah, you're looking to buy yourself. Hit up your girl. 7, 8 0 3 8 1 3 8 5 4. Speaker 0 00:18:00 There we go. I love it. That's like Mike Jones. Jesus. Okay. All right. Well Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. Thank you very much for tuning into the Mac city morning show today. Definitely appreciate it. Uh, hopefully you enjoyed yourself and hopefully you're having a great day. We'll see you tomorrow. Peace. Speaker 1 00:18:17 I just dies at this. It's another Mac city morning show. Don. Speaker 6 00:18:35 Talk about quenching your ugly thirst.
