Speaker 0 00:00:01 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned in to the Mac city morning show. I am your host, Elliot Pierre, and we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time. So the fact that you're spending with us truly doesn't mean the world to me on that note, Tanner hit him with the intro. Speaker 1 00:00:23 Oh, she caught me loves and you're listening to the next <inaudible> Speaker 0 00:00:33 All right. And we're back. Okay. These are my favorite type of, uh, episodes. It's just going to be me and Tanner today. So it's been a while since we, uh, have done one of these, it's been a while since me and Tanner just had a, a moment to chat. There's always somebody in that chair. So me and her haven't had a lot of quality us talk time. So we decided, you know what, no guests today, just me and Tanner. So dude, what's up. Speaker 2 00:00:55 I, uh, I would feel, I would feel more special if I didn't sit here in three times a day. Here you say, this is my favorite kind of episode. Speaker 0 00:01:02 That's very true. That's true. I'm lying about all the rest. I'm sure. Yeah. I'm lying about all the rest. We some good guests. We have like, uh, I do enjoy when we have a guest that I've never met before, because I'm getting to meet somebody new. And it's super interesting. That being said, like, if I have a childhood friend that comes on, obviously it's going to be a great time, especially because the COVID like, you don't get a bump into people and you know me just in general, I, I just like people. So, Speaker 2 00:01:31 Well, one of my favorite kinds of guests is, uh, foreigners. Like anybody who moved here from another country, like little spoiler for the Mac city. If you're, if you're a foreigner coming on, I will probably ask you, uh, what your first experience in Canada was Speaker 0 00:01:43 Like. Yeah, we had, uh, one of the ladies, I don't know if her episode has aired yet, but her response was epic. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:01:51 Some people have some really cool answers for the cause and nobody's is the same. Right? Cause for people like us, we were born here. So like we don't, we, you know, we don't remember the first time we seen snow or what, you know, how wintered was different somewhere else. It's just what it is. So when they get to come here and just be like, yeah, it is exactly different than what I thought and what is at home. It's that perspective. Speaker 0 00:02:14 That is so true. So you've been doing, uh, even doing some traveling lately a little bit. You went down the highway, you tended to rave. Indeed. So let's talk about raves here. What do you want to talk about? I've always wanted to go to one, never was able to cause my friend group, they weren't down with that type of music or that type of experience. So never been able to go to him. Now, timing did not line up for you and I to go, but we will be going to a rave. There's no doubt about that. So, uh, what do I need to know? What do I need to prepare for? Let's talk about the etiquette, the dress code. Speaker 2 00:02:54 There is a, there's no dress code. That's the first thing like, uh, I know for the smaller shows that you get at like union or just like the one-off events, the dress code is, uh, basically you gotta cover your, your lower and your, your upper bits. So, okay. So as a woman, basically, all you need is a, is a pair on, uh, swimming, bottoms and, and pastries and that's game at the bigger festivals. I know even the pastries are, are, are, are optional, just the bottoms, but, but really you can come. I've seen everybody come from, you know, dressed in shoelace, lay strings all the way up into like a full outfit with the pants and a mask that moves and the whole nine yards. So whatever you feel like is an outfit you want to show off is what is, uh, is what you dress in. So like let's Speaker 0 00:03:45 Say it's in the club, it's an indoor. And we got to talk about this indoor versus outdoor indoor. Let's say, I just want to wear my swim trunks. Speaker 2 00:03:53 You can just, if you want to just wear a, uh, your swim trunks and that is a banana hammock, you can, you can wear that. Oh, Speaker 0 00:04:00 We can throw some Speedos in on the mic. Yeah. Like Speaker 2 00:04:02 I've genuinely seen gentleman walking around in banana hammocks. Just the bits you got to cover. Speaker 0 00:04:08 Okay. Interesting. Okay. So dressing, it's literally whatever you want to do, no judgments going to be made about what you wear Speaker 2 00:04:19 Negative judgment. Like if you were wearing, like, there was a one guy at the rave I went to and he was wearing an, a head to toe duck outfit, like duck, bucket, hat, duck, button, up shirt, duck shorts, duck socks. Like the whole night. You got to say something, that's a sick outfit. So you go up to him. He doesn't know me. I don't know him, but like he, I let him know that outfit was killers. Speaker 0 00:04:39 So let's say, I just want it to dress. Like how I normally dress just like jeans and a t-shirt. Speaker 2 00:04:44 Yeah. You probably wouldn't get money. Uh, people coming up to you Speaker 0 00:05:20 For party was I thought it was just like, oh yeah, we know like specialty areas that you can go to, or maybe you go to like a VIP suite and a guy's apartment or hotel or something. It's a legitimate like party at the bar afterwards. You're in the club. Oh, that changes. It changes everything. So basically like the outdoor, the outdoor portion was like in a parking lot, right outside union, right outside. And then when it was finished, they're like, Hey, come indoors. And now it's going to be a banger inside. Yep. Same type of music, Speaker 2 00:05:53 Same type of music. They might change it up a little bit. The end they do. What's called like a detox set. So it's a little bit like, you know, I like that heavier like more rock and roll style EDM, but they'll do like a detox, which will be like mellower and lighter and a little bit more calm at the end of the night to just sort of bring people's adrenaline down before they go. Speaker 0 00:06:14 Interesting. So outside cooler, inside hotter, Speaker 2 00:06:21 Uh, it depends. Yeah. For like shows like this. Yeah. Cause like when you, when there's so many different kinds of venues, like, like last year when I did frequency, we were at Shaw conference. Right. So your indoor there and yeah, it gets hot, but it doesn't get much hotter than you. An outdoor festival would say you were there at two o'clock in the afternoon, sun beating down on you. But when you compare it to something like union and you're shoving 200 people into a bar with a 250 person max. Right. And all of them want to be at the stage at the rail, at the artists. Then you got a lot of people that are like ingested in a very small area and it gets Speaker 0 00:06:59 Hot. But Speaker 2 00:07:02 Like even the big ones, they get warm. We, I did chasing summer in 2019. And you, uh, it started to rain and like, you know, it wasn't raining the day and it was hot summer day out. And now it's raining at night and you're in shorts and a t-shirt you can't leave the venue cause they won't let you back in. And you're sitting there freezing cold. So what do you do? You just go walk into the crowd and you can feel it. You can feel the warmth gather as you get into the middle of the crowd. Right. Interesting. Speaker 0 00:07:26 Okay. So I think that's a cool concept. In regards to indoor outdoor partying, you got two different completely Speaker 2 00:07:33 Fields. The next one we're going to though bear Grylls. Like the last after party was free. This one you got to pay for. Yeah. But like, there'll be more perks. Like the last one, the after party, the, uh, the headliner didn't play at the after party. Just the openers did, but this one you pay to get into the headliner. We'll be doing a second completely different set. Speaker 0 00:07:53 Okay. And listen, opening acts Speaker 2 00:07:55 All sometimes are better. Some of them like, yeah. When we went to whipped cream, the best show, there was one of the openers. Yeah. A local guy by the name of down ski. He just ended up throwing down like the best music. Speaker 0 00:08:08 Right? Yeah. I was at a common in Edmonton a few weeks ago. And I'm telling you, man, the opening guy, I don't know his stage name. I know his name is Greg in real life. He, his, he was the best DJ ever. And I've actually seen this guy bumped into a more than once, um, in Edmonton. Unbelievable DJ. And then, but he's the starter, he's the opening act. And then like the headliner showed up. It was wasn't even close. It was embarrassing. Speaker 2 00:08:41 Oh yeah. And, and it was funny cause like nothing against whipped cream being the headliner, but the general consensus was that down ski was the best person there. Like, like me and my group decided that we would, we would drive five hours just to see this guy if he were to headline because of how he played. So it was, you know, going in there to see the openers after it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Speaker 0 00:09:03 Right now you were saying whipped cream was not supposed to be the, uh, main guy. There was some confusion there. Speaker 2 00:09:10 Uh, there wasn't so much confusion as there was some controversy with the headliner and some of the DJs at one of the after hours clubs in Edmonton. Um, and uh, I guess those after artists, DJs don't really like promoters in certain people. And so there was, uh, allegations that were brought to the attention of, of certain people and certain people cause enough ruckus that literally the day before he was supposed to play, he got canceled and switched. Wow. Speaker 0 00:09:42 So do you think some people would have been like, you guys still went and you're like, Hey, I got my tickets. I'm going, I'm just happy. You think there's some people who are like, Hey, no, I want to go see that guy. If he's not there anymore, I ain't shown up. Speaker 2 00:09:53 I, there was a lot of people there with that mentality, but because of the fact that this is like one of the first events back, right. A lot of people showed up, but snail's thing is like, he, you know, snails, so everything is green and slimy. So like you saw people's outfits were all green and black coordinated people had their snails merge on that. I met a couple of people out there who were just not happy at all with the show that that whipped cream put out because of what they were expecting. Right, right, right, right, right. Speaker 0 00:10:23 Huh. Interesting. Yeah. Yeah. I'm excited, man. I'm going to, we're going to her and Speaker 2 00:10:27 You'll really enjoy the environment. It's a very, uh, it's a very, um, extrovert oriented environment. Nobody is there to meet people and have a good time and listen to good music. Speaker 0 00:10:38 Yeah. No, I'm excited about it. So yeah. Raves, we're doing it. Yeah. It'll be a good time. We'll hopefully sooner rather than later. Now when you have a rave, if it's an, a winter, obviously you can't do it outside. Wow. Speaker 2 00:10:52 I mean, there's a, there's a few major shows that have winter festivals out in Europe, like out in the snow. And I think there might be one in Whistler. I could be making things up. I know there is like a tomorrow land, winter edition and stuff like that. So you can do it, but is it right? Well, it runs off of momentum, right? Like if, if you can have artists that are keeping that crowd going 24 7, you're going to have some serious problems, but I'm pretty sure those raves all take like the appropriate, uh, precautions. Like they'll probably have, you know, heating sheds and getting packs available just like in, in the hot festivals they have cooldown share and, and uh, people distributing water all the time and stuff like that. So I'm sure you could do it, but you know, those are also not Northern Canada winters. Speaker 0 00:11:45 Totally change topic. Cause I'm, I constantly forget about this. We never promoted on the show. Oh right. Speaker 2 00:11:51 Yeah. We're giving away a car. If you buy it, Speaker 0 00:11:55 Buy this t-shirt. If you're watching at home, these t-shirts limited edition, there's only 200. You buy one of these. T-shirts your name gets entered into a draw to win a brand new Toyota Rav four. Not only could you win a Toyota Rav four, $5,000 gets donated to the Northern lights, health foundation. So, Speaker 2 00:12:15 And now this is just a guess, but I'm assuming we're going to try to get the winner on the show too. Speaker 0 00:12:20 Right? Of course, of course. If they're, if they're up for it, Speaker 2 00:12:23 We're not going to force anybody, but if you want, it could be an added bonus to when that car is guest. Speaker 0 00:12:29 So great. It's a one in 200 chance of winning a car, buy one ticket. That's right. I actually know somebody who's bought two tickets. So there's this 100 chance. Yeah. So their odds are dramatically Speaker 2 00:12:41 Improved. Right? And you could buy as many tickets as you would like. Speaker 0 00:12:44 Yeah. It's a banger. It's limited edition. And you got to flex around Fort Mac saying, Hey, I want a Mac city piece of merchandise. Cause we don't make merchandise outside of these giveaways for the Mac city morning for the Mac city morning show. That's right. Speaker 2 00:12:57 You do for Mac city. That that is a whole nother brand in itself. Speaker 0 00:13:01 So the Mac city morning show, that's like the Supreme brand Speaker 2 00:13:04 X performing Murray. Speaker 0 00:13:06 Yeah. Well, if you don't have a ticket yet, I strongly suggest go to the website, buy a ticket support, local support, local the hospital for goodness sakes. Come on. Somebody locally hopefully wins a car. We're buying the car from a local, uh, place Norelle Toyota. The local hospital gets money too. It's a, win-win win for everybody. Speaker 2 00:13:29 Sure. We've all needed that local hospital once or twice me more. Speaker 0 00:13:34 Yeah, there we go. So yeah, we never promoted. We do a horrible job at it. Go out, buy a ticket or buy your shirt to get a ticket to win. Despite Speaker 2 00:13:44 Elliot's, uh, success in life. He isn't a very good salesman. No, I'm a horrible salesperson. Speaker 0 00:13:52 Yeah. I, uh, luckily the work speaks for itself. So people keep calling and ask him. So, but yeah, I'm, I'm not a hard sales guy. You Speaker 2 00:14:02 Are, you are, you are one of the best people at what you do in probably Canada. Yeah. And you just suck at explaining that to people in words. That's right. You're just like, I have work. Look at it. It's good. And it's like, it works and we're like, man, you can't sell anything. Speaker 0 00:14:21 No, I really can't. Luckily I've surrounded myself with great people who put together great work and we it's, it speaks for itself. And that's how we, uh, we continue to get work, but yeah, in regards to like knocking on doors or really doing that elevator pitch more often than not when people even come and it drives you nuts, I uh, people will be like, yeah, I want to give you money. Yeah. And I'm like, oh no, it's Speaker 3 00:14:45 All right. It's all good. Don't worry about it. Whenever you can figure it Speaker 2 00:14:48 Out. It's not even the giving aspect because like, it's not about the money it's that people are like, Elliot. I would really love to work with you. I think your business does great work. And you're like, yeah, we do. And then that's it. And I'm like, are you not going to follow up and be like, oh, I didn't think about following up. Like I said, I probably should have they'll call me though. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:15:08 So if you're out there and you'd like to work with, uh, myself or anybody on the team, please, by all means we are open to it. I'm sorry if I missed the cue that you were trying to, to collaborate or work with us or give me money. As some people would say, um, I'm all for it. I'm just a horrible salesperson and Speaker 2 00:15:28 Elliot. Aren't the biggest understanders of social cues. Yeah. They're hard. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:15:34 So, uh, I know we were talking for a while before we get going though. I want to talk about one thing that I'm very excited about. Uh, I got some new shoes. I don't know. I can put my feet up. Speaker 2 00:15:44 You want me to get that camera tilted down? No, no, no. Just tell me when you can see it right there. No, get them up higher. Higher. Keep going higher. Look at those. That's the size I can go. I just wanted to see how high they were Speaker 0 00:15:55 In those sweet Nike's now the cool thing about these. If you can see them, no laces. So to untie them, you pull this strap, boom. On tied to tie them up. You pull this thing. Boom. And they're tied. Speaker 2 00:16:09 I'm saying what? Uh, what socks are you rocking with? Those zero. Zero socks. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:16:15 Um, I have worn these with socks. I don't like wearing anything with socks, but I have tried. And what socks are good with socks, but more often than not no socks. So anyways, I forget what these shoes are called. If you're a sneakerhead looking at home, you can comment on what they are. They look like running shoes to me, they're bangers, man. They feel, it feels like I'm walking on a cloud and uh, they're made of 50% recycled material. Speaker 2 00:16:42 What's your favorite piece of clothing? You own period like hat, pants, shoes, socks, anything. What's your favorite piece of clothing? Speaker 0 00:16:49 Favorite piece of clothing? Well, this shirt right now, because you could potentially win a, a car. Speaker 2 00:16:55 Uh, we can't, uh, we can't but you could, so Speaker 0 00:16:58 It should be your favorite piece of clothing. Um, what's my favorite piece of clothing. I think I know. I would say it's my watch. I'd say you're wrong. What would you Speaker 2 00:17:09 Say was your penny Hardaway Jersey? Oh Speaker 0 00:17:11 Yeah. Well, I don't wear that though. So yes. My penny Hardaway Jersey that, uh, Curtis Phillips gave to me, unbelievable autograph, penny, Hardaway, Jersey, dude. Thank you so much. I'm working on getting it framed right now. Yeah. Hands down. That is my favorite piece of, Speaker 2 00:17:28 I'm not as happy about it, uh, to CJ, just because like, since he's got it, it's all I've heard from him is about this Jersey, how he wants to sleep with it. And I think it takes it everywhere. It's it's become an obsession. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:17:41 Oh, it's a big deal. A penny Hardaway Jersey. Unreal. Speaker 2 00:17:44 You like scrapped your plans for your, uh, for your office. You're like, oh, I'm only gonna have one wall filled. And then he gets this Jersey and he's like, I'm going to dedicate a wall to this. Speaker 0 00:17:54 Yeah. So big, big shout out, Curtis Phillips. Unbelievable. Super nice guy. Great stories. Can't wait to have him back on the show again and again and again, but yeah, that Jersey, it is a banger for, for you guys who don't know penny Hardaway was a basketball player. Back in the day, he had an awesome, uh, commercial, um, shoe collaboration with Nike and they had Chris rock has little penny, a little puppet. Unbelievable. He's played with injuries. So he never was able to get to the level that he could have, but he was the original partner was Shaquille O'Neal on the Orlando magic. You guys probably know about Shaq and Kobe before they were Shaq and Kobe. They're Shaq and penny unbelievable team fun fact, little Speaker 2 00:18:40 Tie in here to the beginning of our episode. Did you know shack is a dubstep DJ artist as well. Speaker 0 00:18:46 Oh, I've seen like a funny video of him and his boys in the kitchen and he drops a beat. I did not know what type of music he was dropping that B2. Yup. Dub Speaker 2 00:18:54 Step. His name is DJ diesel. Speaker 0 00:18:56 That's awesome. Shaq's the man. He's hilarious. He's just, multitalented just a fun, loving guy. Love shack. Speaker 2 00:19:02 Yo dude. And I love that. Like I see him in the most random commercials. I have this theory that shack is just would say yes to any, any like, uh, what is that called brand endorsement? Just for the fun of it. Like, he's been the gold bond endorser for however long he does like Epson printers. And he does, he's been on shows like fresh off the boat as Shaq. Like he's just like, Bob's being shack and that's right. Speaker 0 00:19:30 His Buick commercials. I'm like, you ain't fitting in a Buick. Speaker 2 00:19:33 Yeah, for real. But like, I feel like any man that comes up to him is just like Shaq, you want to endorse our product? He's like, yes. I feel like it has to be a skier that like, I feel like if like somebody is like endorse my basketball, you'd be like, get outta here. Yeah. But if they were like, Hey, I got this, uh, I got this new type of sock. He'd be like, I'm in, I'm in Speaker 0 00:19:52 That's. Right. Well, if you haven't watched it, he does an episode of hot ones. Oh, I have seen that. Oh, it's one of the best hot one episodes ever for some of the viewers who don't know what hot ones is. It's a show where they ask questions while the guests are eating hot wings as they progressingly get hot. Speaker 2 00:20:09 And are you just giving the like intro to all at once here on the show today? Speaker 0 00:20:13 Questions with the ER, hot wings with Eva even hotter questions. Yeah. It's a great show. Like first watch us on YouTube. And when you're done watching us on YouTube, click on hall, one's phenomenal. Show Shaq episodes where it's at. Yeah. Same thing with, uh, there's another great episode with like, uh, uh, what's his name? Gordon Ramsey is another good episode. Um, Bert Kreischer. Oh. Or, uh, oh, there's so many. I w I could talk about hot ones all day. I've watched every episode of hot ones. Great, great internet program. Speaker 2 00:20:43 Did you know that you can buy the hot ones? Like pack of like 10 sauces? Speaker 0 00:20:50 I am. I'm not a, like, I don't mind spicy food, but I would never put myself through that experience. Why not? I don't like spicy food that much. And I know I couldn't handle it. I would pull a DJ Khalid and tap out way too quick. Yeah. There's only Speaker 2 00:21:05 Been like four people who have, or some, it's not very many people tap out Speaker 0 00:21:09 Very many. And like DJ Khalid tapped out like early, like on wing number two or three, like, it was nuts how quickly he tapped Speaker 2 00:21:17 Out. And like, I'm not trying to make any racial thing here, but like, he's supposed to be from like a background that enjoys spicy food. Like with like a name, like Cali. Do you think that like the spice level would be up relative to like Burt? Kershner whoever. Yeah. He Speaker 0 00:21:34 Tapped out fast, but yeah, if you haven't watched it hot ones, unbelievable YouTube show. You know what I've been doing and we're going over. I don't care. Um, I've been revisiting Casey Neistat videos. I'm not a fan of him. Oh, what? No. I love Casey Neistat. Oh my gosh. Speaker 2 00:21:54 Something about his personality just doesn't. Oh, Speaker 0 00:21:57 So good. He just did an interview. Check it out. Bert Kreischer. Casey Neistat. Two of my favorite people, uh, as far as entertainers are concerned, Bert did the best Casey Neistat interview ever because he was he's a real fan. And he fanned out on Casey and he told him why. And he asked the questions at any fan of Casey Neistat wants to answer. And because Casey loved Bert so much, he answered them impeccably, honestly. So Bert Kreischer, Casey Neistat, a podcast. Unbelievable. Speaker 2 00:22:30 Who would, uh, if you could be interviewed by one person who would you want to be interviewed? But Speaker 0 00:22:35 If I could be interviewed by one traditional interviewers, anybody, well, I got to throw Oprah out there. Speaker 2 00:22:44 Free Oprah would be your pick. Speaker 0 00:22:46 Yeah, I think so. Cause like, she's just like the epitome of interviewers and she's such a positive individual. So a close second and I do mean close is Joe Rogan. But I feel if I said Joe Rogan, it would just be because he's the biggest podcaster and rightfully so rightfully so his podcast, I very rarely missed an episode of it, but Oprah's got that old school clout. Speaker 2 00:23:11 I'm uh, I'm going to go. I'm going to go say neither of those. I would say Norwalk. Speaker 0 00:23:16 Oh my gosh. Is Speaker 2 00:23:18 That ever blunt to find out some shit about myself? I didn't know. Speaker 0 00:23:21 He is amazing. The human serviette Speaker 2 00:23:24 Like Ugh. Canadian legend. Yeah. Yeah. For real. He's out there in Jim Carrey. And like, could you imagine like he's and he's been interviewing forever. Like he interviewed Nirvana. Speaker 0 00:23:37 He did. Oh man. He's interviewed everybody. I as a kid, like when I'm old, I used to watch his Nard ward interviews used to love them on much music. And he used to be on the wedge and yeah, like I forgot about NAR. I slept on Nard ward. We should, you know, we never do. We don't try to like get people like that. We, we, we should reach out to these people. Speaker 2 00:24:00 We should get somebody to reach out these people. Somebody who can write a coherent email. Speaker 0 00:24:05 Yeah. We'll get parents working on this. This would be pretty. That'd be amazing if we could meet <inaudible> Speaker 2 00:24:13 Who okay. But if you could pick one of those, then what was your top? Speaker 0 00:24:18 Okay. If I could just like, the interview is still sticking with Oprah, but if I could just like have a conversation, I'm going Joe Rogan. Yeah. If Speaker 2 00:24:25 It's just a conversation. Yeah. But interviewed, it has to be Norwalk. Cause like, you know, you would just like get your mind blown. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:24:33 Yeah. And he's Canadian. Yeah. Okay. I'll switch it up. You convinced me in hardware number one. Right? Speaker 2 00:24:38 Like imagine the things that you would learn that you just didn't know about yourself. Like Snoop dog loves Speaker 0 00:24:43 Him. Yeah. My favorite Nard ward interview of all times is when he interviewed any RD for L's band with Chad ferals. The very first one he's interviewed for L numerous times since. But the very first <inaudible> any RD episode with Pharrell Pharrell's facial expressions and just drawed, hitting the ground. Unbelievable. Speaker 2 00:25:07 And like the, the most obscure things like pulling out, like, uh, he interviewed Seth Rogen and like talking about the grocery store that you worked in and the friend that he had at a grocery store.
