Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I am your host Elliot Pierre, and we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time. And the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me. So thank you on that note, tenor hit him with the intro. Speaker 0 00:00:32 All right. We are back now. We have a returning guest. He was a big hit. Last time he loves golf. I know he's going to be promoting golf. We're on a golf course for goodness sake. Um, as everybody's aware, I don't introduce my guests. I let them do that themselves. So on that note, sir, can you please tell everybody at home who you are and what's your about, Speaker 2 00:00:49 Um, Kurt Tiesen, uh, run the Fort McMurray golfers association on Facebook, uh, just local golf, enthusiastic. Uh, yeah, it's pretty much my story, local plumber, but uh, mainly a golf enthusiast first and foremost, Speaker 0 00:01:04 We go. Awesome. Well, thank you very much for coming back on the show. Yeah, I really do appreciate it. And the last time you did it, and I know this time you're doing it because you got the phone out. So before I ask any questions before we get into it, can you tell us the information we need to know? Speaker 2 00:01:17 Okay. Uh, we're here today at miscon, all golf, uh, golf course, uh, God's country is I referred to it as a, it's absolutely beautiful here. Everything's in great shape. Uh, we're actually up on the 72 lounge patio. Uh, I don't know if anybody's been here, but it, uh, replaced, uh, Fox den after it was flooded out. So, uh, kind of got a really nice patio up here. Very nice view of the golf course in the background. We'll eat. Uh, we're here at men's night. It's Wednesday night. So every Wednesday night at, uh, between one and seven, uh, you tee off, uh, for men's night prizes. Uh, tonight they're giving away a $700 driver golf bags and shirts, all kinds of good prizes, best price table in town. Uh, our sponsors creative doors, United rentals, legacy Dodge, and a neurol Toyota for the juniors. I wanted to give them a shout out while we were here. Speaker 2 00:02:10 Um, also Melissa or a new events coordinator miscon out here runs, uh, helps run some of the tournaments and men's night. And, uh, she's been doing a really great job, uh, both courses, uh, Fort McMurray golf club and miscon are having their club championships. Uh, FMGC this weekend coming up and miscon all the following week weekend. So, uh, those are two huge events here in town, um, as well. Uh, I went and played Vista Ridge the other day. So we just wanted to give a shout out to that course. Uh, you know, you hear enough about rotary <inaudible> and Fort McMurray golf club, but that was my first time playing up there. And, uh, just a really family fun environment. They got the big party carts. Uh, I thought it was a great time. Uh, there was more up there than I can ever remember, like from when I was a kid just being the spruce valley ski hill and, uh, now they got mini golf up there and aerial park. Uh, they got it all. That's awesome. Yeah. So that's, uh, that's my list for tonight Speaker 0 00:03:07 Now, the golf season, we're halfway into Speaker 2 00:03:09 It now more than halfway up, Speaker 0 00:03:11 You've played a lot of golf. Let's hear about some of the tournaments that you've participated in. Speaker 2 00:03:15 Uh, well I talked about the program last time, so, uh, we'll ease off of that one. Um, hasn't been a ton, so many golf tournaments this summer as, uh, playing other courses in Alberta. Yeah. Yeah. I got to play a private course in Edmonton, which was unlike anything I've ever played before in my life. Uh, goose hummock I played, I played a Stony plain, just like Lac LA Biche. I got out and just played a lot of the course around Alberta. So not so many a tournament's of summer actually. Uh, but uh, some of the tournaments I have played, I played in my own match play, which I didn't do very well in Times. Uh, what else did I play? I played in the men's open down here, which I did well the first day and had a bad second day. So yeah, but I had a lot of fun. I actually placed in the horse race with, uh, Ben Farrington. So we want a bit of money for that. So that was a fun, fun weekend. Yeah. Uh, yeah. Uh, it's been my summer so far, mainly just mainly just playing fun rounds. Speaker 0 00:04:16 Yep. Now I saw you at, uh, the, uh, golf tournament that Dennis was throwing a little while ago. Speaker 2 00:04:21 Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, a couple of best ball tournaments. Speaker 0 00:04:25 Like what's the difference between like a tournament where you're playing for like cash prize or a tournament like that. Like, there's gotta be a diff Speaker 2 00:04:32 There's a huge difference. So most of the big ones now, miscon, I was doing a bit different this year for their club championship. All they're doing a thing where he can play best ball for fun prizes and stuff. And then there's also an individual one, cause not the individual things, not for everyone. Cause, uh, it's a two day tournament and basically one bad hole could ruin your entire weekend. Not so much ruin it because you're still out there playing for snips. If you have a hole that you do better than anybody else in the tournament, you wouldn't money, right? So you're always playing for something, you know, deuces or snips, whatever it is, there's still money to be had out there. So you're still giving her, but it's, it's a lot of pressure it's, which is why you, a lot of the guys drink a lot during the individual ones, even just, even as serious as they are, they get too serious and you need a couple of beers to take the edge off and then you got the guys out, doing it for fun and they're drinking beers, Stu just, uh, you know, it's just a good time. Speaker 2 00:05:26 It's going to be a good time. That's enough to two weekends from now down here anyway. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:05:31 Yup. So these golf tournament or these golf courses that you were fortunate enough to go across Alberta with, what was the difference that you were seeing between these, uh, other courses versus miscon? All that we have down here? Speaker 2 00:05:43 Uh, honestly, uh, the big thing for me, uh, this is a municipal course and I played some other municipal courses and this one is like, God, be the nicest municipal course in Alberta. Like it's yeah, it's up there for a ran golf course. Like it's, we are very lucky here to have what we have because there's no doubt. Like I went to Stony plain in Stony, plain. It was nice. And uh, but not the same amount of money was put into that course that has ever been put into this course. Like we have the most expensive right behind us here. This green here costs $2 million to put in a Speaker 0 00:06:17 Green, right. Speaker 2 00:06:18 Neural tied that is neural Toyotas hole number six. And, uh, it is the most expensive golf hole and candidate to construct big Speaker 0 00:06:26 Shout out to Nehmer Keith fad, Speaker 2 00:06:28 The boys, I love Toyota, but uh, so Bob weaves came up when they opened that one up and uh, it mimics 17 that TPC Sawgrass. So it's very Speaker 0 00:06:40 Cool. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:06:41 Neat hole. So we're very fortunate to have things like this with, with the, uh, island tea boxes and island greens and all the, all the water out there and just, everything's perfectly manicured. We're very lucky. But now with that being said, now you go, I played a fully private course for the first time in my life. And there is even a step up from what we have, you know, we have it, we have it made, but there's people that have it. Even for me, there you Speaker 0 00:07:11 Go. Well, they're paying the dues Speaker 2 00:07:13 To make that happen. Yeah. They're paying a little bit, a little bit more than I'm paying for my yearly fee down. Speaker 0 00:07:18 Yeah, no, it's a beautiful course. And as everybody knows, we're shooting this in the morning. Cause it's the morning show. The one thing that we don't have all the time is the sun. Cause we got some rain clouds coming in from behind, but you guys still go out, even in the rain, Speaker 2 00:07:31 Rain or shine snow. Uh, the biggest tournament we play at the entire year is, uh, played in September, usually 10th, 11th, sometimes six seventh that weekend. And the temperatures during that, you're out playing for the most money you've ever golfed for. And you're freezing. You can't feel your hands. Like how are you supposed to make this pressure? Nice golf shot when you can't even move. You're wearing six layers of clothing. People who got Curt covers and heaters and their carts were hardcore. Man, you guys, we don't stop for anything. So you go, Speaker 0 00:08:02 All right, my man, we're at the part of the show called the Mac city minute. Tanner could not join us physically here today, but we have them on phone here. Tanner, are you there? My man, I am here. Sweet. You got to hit our guest up with the Mac CD minute, please. Speaker 3 00:08:17 I think question number one. What is your favorite part of golfing at Miskin Speaker 2 00:08:23 My favorite part of golf and it <inaudible> um, well, uh, I'd have to tell the story of how I like my first year of golf and down here, I played in a golf tournament, had a bit of cash on the line. Uh, it has a high, mid and low, a crappy golfer, a medium golfer and a good golfer. I was a crappy golfer that year. I got picked with a, with a good mid and a low and we won the tournament, won a bunch of money. And uh, the next day after that I came in and everybody knew who I was. Everybody knew my name. I was treated that since the day one down here really good for, for a guy who was not easy to get along with. Uh, so that's huge as the staff, you know? Yeah. That's not a memory. It it's just easy going down here. I show up in the morning, I grab my clubs, I grab a card. I go out to the practice hole and I have it made for the day. Speaker 0 00:09:18 There you go. All right. Tanner question number two. Speaker 3 00:09:22 All right. Question number two for you is what is your go-to snack pack prior? Speaker 2 00:09:27 Ooh, the snack cart. Uh, my go-to snack. I would have to say, uh, talk a burger and chips. If I'm getting something from the cart, you know, I usually get my, uh, sandwiches and my hot dogs from the stand. No Speaker 3 00:09:40 Chips and chocolate though. What's your bar? What's your bag? Wow. Speaker 2 00:09:44 It's usually a Mars bar and it's usually a, a bag of Doritos. Boom, boom. Speaker 3 00:09:50 I'm gonna call question number three for you. What is your go-to plan when you want to spend a night in? Speaker 2 00:09:59 Uh, but I'm going to spend the night in. It's usually a, uh, video games. That's my go-to. I got a gaming PC and if I can feel golfing, if the weather's terrible, then I just go home and play video games or go hang out with some friends, uh, used to go, uh, the Tavern on main a lot for their open mics. It used to be a big thing for me, but COVID kind of slowed everything down and it's been a while, but I'm going to try to get back into that here. As soon as you know, there Speaker 0 00:10:27 We go. All right, next question. Speaker 3 00:10:30 Question number four. What is the worst round of golf you've ever played? Speaker 2 00:10:37 Honestly, probably the worst for me was, uh, maybe last summer, the summer before. I can't remember what I went with. A couple of buddies, Virgil and Keith down to, uh, Westlock. And, uh, they have a prize there for the worst guy in the division and it's called the cry towel. They give you a towel and I won the cry towel that year. I just, I had a, I had a great summer, but it just not a great scoring summer. So that was, uh, I can remember, uh, one like the worst hole I've ever played. And it was during that tournament. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:11:11 All right. Last question. Speaker 3 00:11:13 And your final question, if you could golf with one person who would that be? Speaker 2 00:11:19 One person. Oh man. In the entire world, I would have to say, oh, probably Donald Trump. I would like to get in his golf cart, drive up on the greens, just act like royalty. And I think he'd be interesting to meet though. Speaker 3 00:11:36 And those have been your five questions. Speaker 0 00:11:40 Alright, there we go. That Tanner and those questions man kills them. I like that answer Donald Trump. That's an interesting Speaker 2 00:11:46 Problem. Here's some feedback. Speaker 0 00:11:48 No doubt. Well, listen, he's nothing outside of. Interesting. You got to give the man that he's out there. All right. Well man, we're at the end of the show or I think we are, I don't have tat Tanner point in that to watch keeping me on track, but it seems Speaker 2 00:12:02 Mark. Just about time to get started nine 30. They do the price presentation here at miscon. All gets pretty wild. Sometimes we have a like they're giving away $700 driver tonight. Bunch of pride, like the prize table is unreal. So everybody gets fired up for that. It's called. Speaker 0 00:12:17 So before I cut you loose, you got to shameless. Shout out. Let's hear ya. Speaker 2 00:12:20 Uh, wasn't shameless showed up. Uh, my buddy, one of our miscon members owns Borealis buds downtown can Hickey. So I'm going to give him a shout out. He, uh, he has what you need for the golf course. If you're looking to calm down and have a have a fun evening, there you go. Speaker 0 00:12:35 Perfect. I love it. Will do. Thank you very much for being on the show again. I do appreciate it. I seriously, can't wait to have you back again. Awesome. Sweet. All right. Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. That's another episode of the Mac city morning show. Thank you very much for tuning in. Really do appreciate it. Hopefully you're having a great day and we'll see you tomorrow. Peace Speaker 4 00:12:56 And deadly, all Wade. And another morning show later by us. Speaker 1 00:13:04 You Speaker 5 00:13:13 Talk about quenching your ugly thirsty.
