Episode Transcript
Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I am your host as per usual, Elliot Pierre. And, uh, we're going to start the show off the same way we start every episode off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time. So the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me on that note, Tanner hit him with the intro
Speaker 0 00:00:31 And we're back now I'm excited about today's episode because I don't know who we're actually talking to. So as you guys know, I don't introduce my guests. I let them do that themselves because they can do a better job. So on that note, sir, can you please tell everybody at home who you are and what you're about?
Speaker 2 00:00:44 Yeah. Thanks. My name's Carmen Muir. I here to play some music for the toolbox open and, uh, happy to come up. I used to live up here for 11 years and I'm now relocated down to Edmonton. I've been down there since the start of, uh, 2019 and, uh, yeah, get up here any chance I can to play music and see friends. I called Fort Mac home for a very long time. So kind of music.
Speaker 0 00:01:09 Do you play
Speaker 2 00:01:11 Literally a bit of everything? Um, what I, what I call my, my show's acoustically, yours and I'm eclectic arrangement. Um, I'm light on the heavy metal on growing my country because of my, uh, new fiance. She, uh, she's from Texas. So I'm trying to pick up my, my country game, but literally a bit of everything fifties till today. Yeah. So what got
Speaker 0 00:01:35 You into music?
Speaker 2 00:01:37 I, uh, I started playing while I was working in Australia. Okay. And I moved to Fort McMurray from Australia and oh, wow. Yeah. Canadian born, um, from Nova Scotia originally. Yeah. We'll see how that goes. Yeah. Um, but yeah, no, I, uh, I started to learn there and I was busking, uh, throughout Australia. And then I started traveling a bit through Europe and I was doing that in Fort McMurray was actually the first place where I got to perform on a stage, uh, 10 years at it. So. Wow.
Speaker 0 00:02:11 Wow. That's amazing. So you, you're a brave guy. You like to get out there and try different things.
Speaker 2 00:02:17 You know, I don't know if brave is the right word. I think when you're busking, nobody, nobody is really paying that much attention. So you can kind of be brave in obscurity maybe is the right way to put it, um, because you can practice and you can get the nerves out in front of people, but they didn't come there for you. Right. They're just passing by. So I used to do the train stations and the airports and stuff like that throughout Europe and try to make enough money to get a pint of beer and a bed and a hostel, but no Fort Mac was the first place that I really had to cool break that break, that barrier. Singing into a microphone. Right. My brother, um, he used to own Delaney. He's Irish pub. I don't know. How long have you been in town? Born and raised. Okay. So you remember lab? Yep. So Troy is a choice. My brother, um, I don't know if you would know my sister Robin, she manages orange fitness, Robin Muir,
Speaker 0 00:03:09 Bumped into her. Yes. I don't know where nowhere, but yeah, sure. Okay. Okay,
Speaker 2 00:03:13 Cool. So yeah, the, the first time I, uh, played on stage, we had a, we had an artist in town and uh, he used to get paid in whiskey. Yeah. He had a little bit too much to finish and my brother went, you know how to play? Get up there, packed house, terrified. Oh
Speaker 0 00:03:27 My God. Sick.
Speaker 2 00:03:29 Two feet away from the microphone. And it took me about a year before I was comfortable. But yeah, just get outside your comfort zone and hats.
Speaker 0 00:03:36 Awesome, man. What a great story. Okay. Now, usually these episodes are 20 minutes long, but I know you got things to do, so I'm not going to keep you. We'll definitely get you to the studio though. We'll get your contact info. When you come back, we'll have a more longer chat. So before we let the guests go, though, you get to shameless, shout out. So this is your time to plug whatever you want to plug yourself, say hi to your mom, do whatever you want. It's all
Speaker 2 00:03:59 Shameless showdown. Um, I will be performing here not only at the toolbox open today, but Brewskies tonight up in Greg guar and tomorrow up in Dickens field. My first time playing over at the shortchange. Oh,
Speaker 0 00:04:15 The revive Jaguar
Speaker 2 00:04:17 Lounge. That's right. I'd never went there before as the JAG. So it's going to be a first time for me. I'm excited to do it. And uh, yeah. Thanks. Thanks for your time. There we go. Sweet.
Speaker 0 00:04:27 Well, all right. Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. Thank you very much for tuning into the show. Totally appreciate it. Hopefully you're having a nice day and we'll see you tomorrow. Peace
