Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I am your host, Elliot Pierre, and we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things through time. And the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me. So thank you on that note, Tanner hit him with the intro.
Speaker 0 00:00:31 All right. And we're back. As you can tell, I'm not on the set of the Mac city morning show. I'm at rib Fest, big shout out to Dennis and all the sponsors and all the volunteers for making this happen and inviting me really do appreciate it. As you know, I don't introduce my guests. I let them do that themselves. So on that note, can you please introduce yourself and tell everybody that
Speaker 2 00:00:49 Hi, Fort McMurray. My name is Ashlyn has been here in the community 10 years now.
Speaker 0 00:00:54 Nice. And what are you doing down here on Rupa? Sasha?
Speaker 2 00:00:57 I'm here half an hour. We're working, we're working VIP tonight. So
Speaker 0 00:01:00 How's it been the last few nights that you've been here?
Speaker 2 00:01:02 It has been so crazy, but so much fun. A lot of excitement. Everyone's having a good time. We're loving it all.
Speaker 0 00:01:09 So you came here 10 years ago. Where did you come from? Ontario. Ontario. Okay. What part of Ontario?
Speaker 2 00:01:15 Okay.
Speaker 0 00:01:16 I've been to Waterloo a bunch of times. I used to go there to watch the Demaurie open or the Rogers, the tennis. It's a beautiful part of Canada. So why didn't you come to port Macquarie?
Speaker 2 00:01:26 I don't know. I just need to change in life and I just figured I got a Fort Mac. I didn't know anything about the town. I didn't know anything about an oil city and I just landed here and
Speaker 0 00:01:38 Like rewind. You knew nothing about urine, Ontario and Waterloo? Yeah. So you're just online looking for places or?
Speaker 2 00:01:45 No, I had some family out here, but I didn't really knew. I didn't know what Fort Mac was all about.
Speaker 0 00:01:50 And so you came out here then and what did you get going? What, what did you do when you first got here?
Speaker 2 00:01:55 Well, I went to school for healthcare, so I used to work in healthcare back in Ontario, but unfortunately my credentials didn't transfer over. When I moved down here. That's okay. It is what it is. And I ended up doing retail and now it's like my passion, my life. So where do you do that? I'm a sales manager at staples.
Speaker 0 00:02:13 Okay. Nice. And so how long have you been at staples store?
Speaker 2 00:02:18 Okay.
Speaker 0 00:02:19 That's not bad at all. Okay. So, uh, you're at staples. You're in Fort McMurray. How did they reel you in to doing this?
Speaker 2 00:02:26 Not only do I work at staples, I'm also a server at 57 north.
Speaker 0 00:02:32 Yeah. You keep yourself busy. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Cause I was wondering like all the volunteers here basically, like they either know Dennis or they know Dale and they've just kind of bamboozled them into coming and working very, very long and hard hours.
Speaker 2 00:02:46 Good time. Lots of
Speaker 0 00:02:47 Fun. Yeah. You guys have been killing it back there. Especially last night on country night. It was so busy here. That was crazy night. Yeah. You're dressed. You're dressed the part. So in regards to Fort McMurray moved out here 10 years ago. It didn't know anything about it. Yeah. You're still here obviously. Then what's kept you here.
Speaker 2 00:03:04 Um, I made it a home. I have my husband here now. I have two kids and this is a community that I want to be in. And every time I go back home, I get homesick for Fort McMurray.
Speaker 0 00:03:14 That's awesome. So if you two kids during a cogen, what did you do to keep them busy? Are now occupied
Speaker 2 00:03:21 Outside and play the color. They're five and three. So they're a little bit younger. So I didn't really even tell them that there was a pandemic happening. I tried my hardest to just keep life as normal as possible for.
Speaker 0 00:03:34 Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. I have a six year old. We did a lot of skateboarding. Yeah. You got to wear them out. You got to wear them out. Cool. So we're at red festival. We're pretty much asking everybody this, but as far as the rib trucks are concerned, do you have a favorite one? Okay. Let's hear it. Cam 31 camp. 31. Okay. What are you getting when you go there? Whole pork sandwich. Every time. Okay. All right. You're the first person to say a full pork sandwich. We've heard ribs. We've heard sausages to pull pork. That's the first one. Okay. Is this a regular occurrence for you? Is this your first time coming here?
Speaker 2 00:04:10 Oh, really? Okay.
Speaker 0 00:04:13 And you're loving it so far. There we go. Okay. Well, listen, that's the show. It's short. It's sweet. I know you're super busy. It's usually longer. And usually Tanner has some questions, but I see you guys are slammed behind the bar, so I don't want to take too much for your time. So thank you for doing the show being brave. I do appreciate it. Sweet. Now the last thing that happens before everybody leaves is you get a shameless shout out or plug. So the Mike's on you. The camera's on you. Who do you want to give a shout out to or say hello to, I don't
Speaker 2 00:04:39 Say hello to my family, to my husband and my two kids. There
Speaker 0 00:04:42 We go. That's a great shout out. All right. Before Memorial with Buffalo and the rest of the world, that's been another episode of the Mac city morning show. Thank you so much for tuning in hope. You're having a great day and we'll see you tomorrow. Peace
