Episode Transcript
Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I am your host, Elliot Pierre. And, uh, we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I want to thank everybody for tuning in, because I know you could be doing a million different things. So the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me. So on that note, Tanner hit him with the intro.
Speaker 1 00:00:24 Oh, she caught me loves you're listening to the max anymore.
Speaker 0 00:00:33 All right. And we are back well today. Uh, we're doing a redo. I'm not going to tell you who the guest is because you're going to see them in a second. But, uh, we have a bunch of fail safes for sound nowadays. And we dropped the ball on every single one of them. So there was no audio on this young lady's episode last week. So she decided to come back, uh, for a do-over. So on that note, can you please introduce yourself to the people at home and they can actually hear your voice this time.
Speaker 2 00:01:00 Hi everyone. I'm Alicia Spears. I am Elliot's little sister. Thanks for having me on the show today. Again,
Speaker 0 00:01:06 Again, there we go. So obviously you have lots of things to talk about. I'm saying, I'm sorry for, uh, losing the audio. Like we have, there's three people and there's four different fail safes for that. Not to happen anymore because we've dropped the ball so many times prior to, but uh, Hey, we make mistakes here. We're human
Speaker 2 00:01:24 Beings and
Speaker 0 00:01:26 You're back. All right. So I don't remember what we talked about last time, but, uh, it doesn't matter. Cause you're my sister so we can figure stuff out. Yes. So you're currently Alyssa, Alicia Spears. Okay. You got married.
Speaker 2 00:01:38 Yes, I did. Yeah. I'm married. Yeah. And we have one daughter. Her name is Lily. She's a sweetheart cutest thing ever. Yeah. She's a busy, busy girl. Yeah. She
Speaker 0 00:01:52 Is awesome. What I found really cool. Cause you're up visiting just for everybody at home. I'll make fun of Alicia. As the show goes on. She no longer lives here. She's all Calgary now. But uh, her daughter, Lily is five years younger than Keegan my son. And when we were growing up, Alicia's four years younger than me. And it was the cutest thing ever because Lily literally follows Keegan around like a shadow and everything. Keegan does, may it be good and or bad she wants to do. That's right. And it was very reminiscent of, uh, you following me around when we were growing up.
Speaker 2 00:02:27 Yeah. Sounds about right. Yeah. Never wanted me around, but I was always there.
Speaker 0 00:02:31 Yeah. Yeah. I definitely try to shake you, but uh,
Speaker 2 00:02:34 What now? Yeah. Now you're like
Speaker 0 00:02:36 Me around. I love having you around, but when we were growing up, not so much. Yeah. Just keeping it a hundred. Uh, luckily we have another sibling. Well, we don't, I don't talk about you guys on the show very often. So I I'm the eldest of three. So we've got me than Allister then Alicia. So luckily you and Alister became best friends is as, and you guys hung out while I, yes.
Speaker 2 00:03:03 And I Austria and I still hang out a lot. He lives in Calgary with me. Yeah. And um, you know, we like to get together and watch movies have good food. Yeah. It wasn't until
Speaker 0 00:03:15 Honestly you guys became adults like over 18 that I started hanging out with you guys when we, like, it's funny. When I think back of our childhood, like obviously we spend time together, we vacation and stuff, but like, I didn't really spend too too much time with you guys. I was always out. Yeah. But then like Allister, it's really funny. I bought a house in beacon hill and then he bought a house, literally down the street, as you know, and that time frame in our lives was the most time I spent with Allister when he was like my neighbor versus when we literally used to share our bedroom, um, bunk beds. So yeah. And then when you turn 18, then, well, things just went off the rails and we started hanging out a lot. Yeah. So good times. So you're visiting, but you taken
Speaker 2 00:04:05 Off today. Yesterday was my last day. They were leaving basically right after this show. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:04:11 You and I had a nice road trip. We, uh, we've never actually had a road trip. I don't know if you were, uh, if you were aware of that, but you and I have never took a solo road trip. Nope, no. Not as children. Like we always had mom and dad drive. Right. So it was a nice road trip. You were, you're a good company.
Speaker 2 00:04:25 Yeah. Yeah. We listened to some good music and entertain Lily the whole time. She only slept for 15 minutes on a nine hour drive. It was, she killed it. Yeah. She was really good.
Speaker 0 00:04:36 We, uh, we stopped at west Edmonton mall for a little bit though. Yes.
Speaker 2 00:04:39 To get up and out. Uh, Lily and I walked outside. When you went to pick up something from, uh, the Levi.
Speaker 0 00:04:47 Yeah. I purchased a, I got something purchased and made a new Tanner, giving me some grief about it. I want to, I want to throw it out there. What I've ended up buying, uh, is some coveralls, but they're not just any kind of coveralls they're fitted coveralls.
Speaker 2 00:05:03 I like to call it janitor. Chic,
Speaker 0 00:05:05 Janitor chic. I think they're cool. I think the comfortable Dave Chappelle wears these like coveralls of his own. And so I got these coveralls made and uh, they're the best. I'm not gonna lie. Um, I like rocking them when it's not as hot as it is today. But uh, you and Tanner had some opinions of these coveralls that, uh, you don't think they're banging. If it's
Speaker 3 00:05:28 Too hot, you can always just wear them shirtless in your red rag, top sports car. That's right. That's right. That's what I'm saying. You guys, I'm not judging your fashion style. I'm just saying it's a questionable one.
Speaker 0 00:05:46 I loved it. Where you guys who don't know? Like, uh, after the other episode that we filmed me, Tanner, Alicia hung out and boy did we have jokes? Uh, it's a shame sometimes. Like I would love to keep these cameras rolling afterwards. Cause pure comedy here. Pure comedy.
Speaker 3 00:06:09 Oh sorry. We got to get them in the overalls in
Speaker 2 00:06:11 The show. Yes. I think that would be good. And then you guys
Speaker 3 00:06:14 Can vote, vote ornate.
Speaker 0 00:06:18 I gotta get a patch for the coveralls that are not, they're not completed
Speaker 3 00:06:21 Yet. So what patch? Oh, I'm going to city next city patch. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:06:29 You do work like the other component of it is like the coveralls are very format because everybody at one point in time puts on coveralls in this town. Right? You do work. So I figured, Hey listen. When I do work a recovery zone. When was the last time you mowed your lawn? Oh, it's been a long time.
Speaker 4 00:06:48 <inaudible> this? This is work. This is work. That's why they're tailored. Right? That's exactly it.
Speaker 0 00:07:06 I hate, hate mowing the lawn. I like shoveling. I like shoveling actually. Uh, I have a snowblower total waste of money. Never used it once. I actually do enjoy shoveling, but more on the lawn. <inaudible> not my cup of tea. That was a great burn. Tanner sucks. That was awesome.
Speaker 2 00:07:26 I'd like to say one thing. Um, so last week I was on the show because I was here to talk about that Edmonton international cat festival. That's right. It's still on. So it started on Wednesday or Wednesday, sorry, Saturday, Saturday. And it runs for three weeks. So you still have time to get a ticket. It's $20 and you can see all the shows, all the programming for the next, uh, two and a half weeks. Right. And all the proceeds go towards, uh, three different charities, um, for the cats, um, you know, giving back to the animals. Okay. And there's also an ATB marketplace where you can buy different items. There's different things like jewelry. There's some art there's cat, um, products. As from myself, I do sell cat toys. Right. Um, so it's just a wide variety of options for you cat lovers out there. So that's why I came on the show to let everybody out here know about your company too. Yeah. So I am heartfelt Calgary. And if you are not into going on line and looking at all those videos, there is also a chance to get my items here at the Benjamin Moore, absolute serendipity, or you can just message me, I'll send it straight to your house. There's so many options
Speaker 0 00:08:50 You make felt based products.
Speaker 2 00:08:53 Yes I do. Yeah. So I make, um, cat toys. I make baby toys. I make specialty, um, baby mobiles, mobiles are sweet. Yeah. So those ones are always a banger and I always custom make them. So there's only about two that I've made like more than one time because people have said, oh, I want that specific one. That's right. But actually one of the first ones I've done was for a couple here in Fort McMurry. Yeah. Uh, they asked for a, a customized, my neighbor told her role and it's this anime, um, movie. And it was her husband's favorite movie growing up. And so she actually got it made as a surprise to him. Um, well for the baby, but for him, then she sent me the video when they opened it up and it's just so awesome. So, uh, I just do it, you know, to make people happy and, and have those memories. And it's really nice. Okay. There we go.
Speaker 0 00:09:54 Nice. Now you're wearing something right now. We showed this guy out a lot,
Speaker 2 00:10:00 Man. Also I'm wearing his socks, fresh prince of Bel air. He's my man. You like will Smith. I love him. I love him. I, uh, watch all his stuff. I'm a big fan. I try to shout them out. I told them to holler at me, still waiting. Well, call me.
Speaker 0 00:10:22 So the real question is, cause I know I do. He's my sixth man award. When it comes to rap, do you listen to any of his rap music?
Speaker 2 00:10:29 I listened to his music. Yes. I listened to Jayden Smith music. I listened to Willow Smith's music. I actually, as you know, teach, tap dancing. That's right. And uh, one year all the numbers were Willow. Smith will Smith like all the numbers for all the kids. I was like, you know what? It's the Smith year. Cause I get, you know, I just get to do what I want. It was the best recital ever. And you know, those kids were whipping their hair back and forth. It was so good. I loved it.
Speaker 0 00:11:02 Other from that track. Have any other music? No. Okay. Well she had like a whole album. Oh she did. Okay. Okay.
Speaker 2 00:11:10 Is it good? Well, it's like pop. It's good for, for what it is or what it is. Yeah. It's catchy. It's all catchy. Yeah. Yeah. I like Jane. Oh, he's who he is. He's a good rapper point.
Speaker 3 00:11:23 Also has music out in 2021 and 2019.
Speaker 2 00:11:27 Oh yeah. Check that out.
Speaker 0 00:11:31 Yeah. Yeah. The Smiths are a very talented family to say the least.
Speaker 2 00:11:34 Yes they are. Yup. Yeah. We grew up watching fresh prince. That was one thing we did as a family. We'd all sit around and watch fresh prince of Bel air. Yeah. And um, I don't know, from there, I just grew to love him more. You know, we had his albums and I dunno, just stuck with me. I, uh,
Speaker 0 00:11:54 Uncle Vincent, auntie Monica bought me for Christmas one year the will Smith CD. Oh wow. And I was just like, oh man. Cause like will Smith. Wasn't like a cool, I was listening to like gangster rap at the time on unknown to mom and dad and a sec anyways. So I put it in whew. Banger banger. So then I told them, I told them how much I liked it. And uh, the following year for Christmas, which is hilarious, they ended up buying me a will Smith cassette tape. They went backwards. It wasn't,
Speaker 4 00:12:29 It wasn't a CD.
Speaker 0 00:12:31 It was a tape. And I was just like, really? They're like, Hey listen, we couldn't find the CD. All we could find was a cassette tape. So I had to like dust off the Walkman and uh, listen to that. So will Smith is the man. I've always liked him a lot from his movies to his rap. Now he's on YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat. He's just, he's killing it in the game. I love how he's always evolving. His he's always evolved.
Speaker 2 00:13:06 I like that. He's always honest too. You know, you get, you see what you get. He's so positive and positive. I know you always like to be positive, send the vibes out. And I, it helped me a lot through a lot in my life and yeah, I like to be positive and let others know. You know, it's okay to have times where you're, you have your feelings and, but it's good to have the positive vibe and try to see the bright side of things. It really pushes you through the hard moments. So yeah.
Speaker 0 00:13:38 Yeah. He kills it. Mr. Positivity, hands down. So some of his latest YouTube clips are so inspirational. Like unbelievable. So yeah. Big shout out to will Smith. My man. So while we're on this topic though, Tanner, sorry if I hijack any of your, your Mac city minute, um, favorite will Smith movie hitch hitch. Yeah. I just watched him two weeks ago.
Speaker 2 00:14:04 Great movie love it when I'm sad level and I'm happy. Love the one on board pitch. I'd probably watch hitch well minimum. Yeah, minimum minimum.
Speaker 0 00:14:16 I'm going to throw a curve ball at you. Okay. I love focus. Focus is a great movie. It's a great movie.
Speaker 2 00:14:24 It's just, um, you know,
Speaker 0 00:14:27 I'm just saying that's that's like
Speaker 2 00:14:30 He's it is a good movie. A lot of gems. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:14:33 My second one, if I got to go second place independence
Speaker 2 00:14:37 Day. Oh. I w I actually watched that every year on independence day. Every year. That's hilarious. That's my I'm like, oh, Americans independence day. It's a world. Independence day will Smith and I watch it.
Speaker 0 00:14:52 That's hilarious. All right. Tanner, before I hijack interview questions by mistake, Hila show up at the Mac city minute
Speaker 3 00:14:59 Question. Number one. What is your favorite will Smith project of anything? Music, TV.
Speaker 2 00:15:09 Hmm, well, Smith project. He did a really cool, um, documentary series about the world and earth on net flicks. So I'd say that was one of my favorite ones. It just like looked at the earth in a different way. He had different guest speakers and I don't know. It just gave you a different appreciation for the planet. We live on
Speaker 3 00:15:35 Question number two. What is your favorite moment you have with your two siblings?
Speaker 2 00:15:42 Favorite moment. Okay. Well, uh, this one actually was my 18th birthday. We went down to the Boston pizza downtown Fort Mac, and it was just a great time. The first time we got to go out as adults. And, uh, it was just a really great night, but I remember starting off at BPS.
Speaker 3 00:16:05 What is one of many ways Fort McMurray is better than Calgary
Speaker 2 00:16:12 Harsh. Um,
Speaker 4 00:16:15 Wow. Uh, we just need one though.
Speaker 2 00:16:22 I think just, you know, it's, it's such a good community feel. Um, it's a whole city of a community, you know, we're in Calgary, you have your little communities, pockets of community, but it just feels like home every time I come home. So I still call it home. And I love coming for visits.
Speaker 3 00:16:44 Question number four. What is your favorite object you've made by hand.
Speaker 2 00:16:51 Oh, okay. So one of my favorite objects I made, um, was a surprise for a client. Um, my friend, Matt Barwick, I made him a big Mac meal for his cats. So I made handmade a little, uh, big Mac and the fries and they look pretty good. And I was pretty proud about how good it looked also. I love McDonald's that's my meal. So very happy about that one.
Speaker 3 00:17:24 And your final question. What is one thing that reminds you of Elliot that makes you laugh? Look at the guy
Speaker 4 00:17:32 <inaudible> that was hard.
Speaker 2 00:17:43 I don't know, Elliot. He just does so many funny things. I think, uh, just him being, uh, uh, my dad is Gregory Pierre, so he is Gregory pier Jr. And he often does things that are exactly like my dad and, uh, he forgets and I just call them out GB joy. He knows what I'm talking about.
Speaker 0 00:18:13 The cool thing about this for people, because they obviously don't know those are five different questions that Tanner asked from last time. Yeah, those weren't the same five. So Tanner man crushing it on the Mac city.
Speaker 2 00:18:24 The last time I had to embarrass myself. So this time I'm in the clear, I love it.
Speaker 0 00:18:28 One thing that you and I were talking about from last time that we didn't do enough of, um, was talk about our other sibling Allister. So we'll take a few minutes to talk about Allister. Cause I know he does watch every single show. There are three Pierre's and uh, we love Allister. Yes. He's in Calgary. Yes. Living here right now. Got some cats,
Speaker 2 00:18:50 Two cats, Misty and bass. Or is
Speaker 0 00:18:52 That their names? Yeah, I don't like cats. Sorry. No, but I
Speaker 3 00:18:56 Think Alister maybe needs to come on. Yeah. The final peer sibling. Well, I don't know.
Speaker 2 00:19:02 Alastair is not one for the cameras. I'm not sure he would feel comfortable being upfront.
Speaker 0 00:19:09 I got home, I got him in a video one time. He is like, um, when we came to visit you in Calgary, a few years ago, we went to the library and I was filming and he was just like, can I be in a video? I was like, yeah. So I did get him on camera one time. But yeah, it's few and far between, he's not a get on time.
Speaker 2 00:19:29 He's he's a, you know, a behind the scenes guy like Tanner. Yeah. Yeah. The
Speaker 3 00:19:34 Greenhouse has ways of making people feel a lot more comfortable being on camera though. So I'm sure we can convince him.
Speaker 0 00:19:41 Yeah. We have some things here to make you feel a little bit comfortable, especially for like late night filming. So, you know yeah. 12 o'clock somewhere. It's 12 o'clock somewhere. There you go. So on that note, uh, I know you've got to hit the road and we're coming to the end of the show. So thank you for coming. Really do appreciate it. Thanks for coming back. Sorry about the technical difficulties we had with the last episode, but before you leave, please, uh, one more time, tell people about your business and about cat Fest.
Speaker 2 00:20:10 Okay. So again, my name is Alicia Spears and I am the owner creator designer of heartfelt Calgary. You can purchase my items here in town at absolute serendipity, Benjamin Moore. I'm not sure if it's Benjamin Moore, absolute serendipity. You know what I mean? And um, I was talking a little bit more about the Edmonton international cat Fest. You can go online on their Facebook, their Instagram, or they actually just have a website, um, Edmonton international cat fest.com and uh, yeah. Thanks so much for me today. And I hope to see you guys again. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:20:49 Can't wait to have you back again. No, this is a fun one. I like having you on the show. Obviously we can talk about a lot of stuff in this show was a lot less embarrassing than the last show. So big win for all of us. So, uh, on that note, Fort McMurray wood Buffalo, thanks for tuning in this has been an episode of the Mac city morning show. Um, once again means the world to me that you keep tuning in. So thank you very much and have a nice day.
Speaker 4 00:21:31 Talk about quenching your ugly thirst.
