Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned in to the Mac city morning show. I'm your host, Elliot Pierre. And we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time, and the fact that you spend with us truly does mean the world to me. So thank you on that note, Tanner hit it with the intro. Speaker 0 00:00:29 Okay. And we're back. All right. As you can see, we are not on the Mac city set. We are still at rib festival. We're on Taree because on style filling a very special episode, as everybody knows at home, I do not introduce my guests because they can do a better job at that than myself. So on that note, sir, can you please tell everybody who you are? Speaker 2 00:00:46 I'm a country singer songwriter, my name's Gord Bamford, and come up to Fort Mac quite a bit. Love it up here. And yeah, if you don't know me, you do now, so Speaker 0 00:00:54 That's awesome. So I've heard, you've come up to Fort McMurray once more Speaker 2 00:00:57 Than once now, I have, um, quite a few, you know, back used to play up here quite a bit when we were getting gone. And yeah, we were up here not too long ago with our, our driving show. God at the airport went, went really well. So it was a little different playing the cars, but honking horns at you. But now we're very happy to be playing the real thing again. Speaker 0 00:01:16 So tell me a little bit about how you got into this country, Sr. Speaker 2 00:01:21 Well, I mean, I kind of, I got an in country music in the nineties, you know, it was Garth Brooks and, you know, Alan Jackson, he's kind of the era, the nineties country was the biggest thing going and started playing. And I started singing as a young kid, but I never really, I was pleasant baseball player. Actually. I was playing pro ball on a high school in Australia and I wasn't planning on being the country singer, but it just kind of worked out that way. And I'm pretty, pretty happy and pretty grateful for the grub and all the house I did. Yeah. Yeah. So as I grew up was a athlete and played a lot of ball and born in Australia. So the whole dual citizenship, and when I finished high school, I went over there and I'm playing in one of their, um, semi-professional leagues there and played for bits. But I ended up hurting my arm. I was a pitcher. So that was kind of the end of it for me. So, but yeah, I played a lot of, a lot of ball and enjoyed it Speaker 0 00:02:17 In regards to like you're in Canada. Did you have relatives? Speaker 2 00:02:20 Well, my dad lives, my dad lives in Australia, so I was going over to see him. I kind of just walked onto the trial, ended up playing there for good. I didn't play long time. I played ball growing up as a young kid. My uncles were really involved in it and they coached us and we won a couple of provincial championships when we were younger and it was pretty neat. So, Speaker 0 00:02:41 Okay. So after you, you're into your arm playing baseball, I'm assuming you Speaker 2 00:02:44 That Canada then came back to Canada yet and then, um, started playing music. You know, when people said you should play music, you'd be good at it. And back when I was getting into music, like everybody here, you can play. There's lots of club dates, and then you can go to the town or city every week can play three or four nights or five nights a week. And that's what we did. We played up here, the casino for a bit back in the day in BoomTown. And so we were kind of honed our skills that way. And it's not like that anymore, but I was able to play lots and got some really good breaks. Met some people in Nashville, you know, started putting out songs and no long story made short. Like, you know, I think now the most awarded Canadian artists. So I went to this great, you know, we've had lots of success on radio and, and, uh, I've been good. Speaker 0 00:03:30 Oh man, not a bad way to make a living. Not a bad way. That's really cool. Now we were talking about this earlier in regards to the bus. I've never been on one of these big, nice buses before I asked you, like you stay in a hotel sometimes you're like, yeah. But I wake up in a different city. Tell me a little bit about that expense. Speaker 2 00:03:46 Well, if had the boss for a lot of years, so it's, it's actually, it's a necessity. Like, and there's not a lot of buses in Alberta, but for us, like we can get on a, we're going to be here tomorrow night tonight, and then we can be in Calgary tomorrow or farther than that, you know? So for us, it's, let's just get down the road and play player music and, and do our jobs. So yeah, it's kinda just kind of, you know, you trust the driver, obviously. He's good, but yeah. So it's always nice to get off the stage, do your job and wake up in the next town and do it all over again. So, Speaker 0 00:04:17 So when you were contemplating becoming a country singer, a country star who influenced you, who your eyes? Speaker 2 00:04:25 Pretty? I said like the old school stuff, like George Strait, you know, Ellen Jackson, you know, more than Merle Haggard was he was a big one of my heroes, you know? So, um, more of that, more of that country sound and stuff, you know, it's just kinda what kind of, what I've been doing. What I do. Yeah, I did. Merle were all passed away, but I've met them all and toured with George Morel and Allen Allen I've played shows with and stuff. So yeah. It's pretty neat. Isn't that cool? Yeah. Very cool. Speaker 0 00:04:53 And that's not a bad way to live a life. My man, Speaker 2 00:04:56 It's pretty good. I'm not complaining the most part. Speaker 0 00:04:59 Okay. Well, we're at a part of the show called the Mac city minute. This is where Tanner is going to ask you a few questions. I don't know what he's going to ask you, so I wish you nothing but the best of luck and with the max 80 minutes. Speaker 3 00:05:09 Alright. Any question number one for you today? What instrument from Australia do you think would best fit in a country song? Speaker 2 00:05:17 The didgeridoo Speaker 3 00:05:20 Question number two. What is your favorite part of coming up to Fort McMurray to play a show? Speaker 2 00:05:25 Well, it's great. Just to be playing a show, you know, back back to semi-normal again. So thanks to, thanks to the organizers here in Fort Mac and the people for coming out and having us up and literally following this about four weeks, four weeks ago. And it was a real quick one and we're just happy to be here. So Speaker 3 00:05:42 Question number three, if not country, what would you be playing right now? Speaker 2 00:05:48 Oh, I'm pretty true and true country, but I liked classic rock, big tragically hit fast, stuff like that, but I'm not sure I'd be able to play that stuff. Let's play my Speaker 3 00:06:00 Question. Number four. What is one song? Your fans might be surprised you love to sing along to, Speaker 2 00:06:06 Um, drinking buddy. Speaker 3 00:06:10 And number five. What has been your favorite experience of this rib Fest so far? Speaker 2 00:06:16 Uh, just the people, you know, and then food, obviously, uh, there's lots of ribs floating on around there. I know emerged girls had, she's tried them all, so she's pretty happy about that. But, um, you know, in fact that they're bringing people together, it's a free show. Come watch it. You know, it's, it's pretty neat. It's a good thing to do. And it looks like it'll be a nice night or they're dressed. Nice. That's good. Speaker 0 00:06:38 Awesome. Wow. Good job. Tanner. Always killing it with the Mac city minute. Speaker 3 00:06:43 Well, there you go. Speaker 0 00:06:45 So then that's the end of the show. I want to thank you very much for taking the time to sit down with us at the end of our episodes though, we always let the guests have a shame to shout out or plug. So the Mike's on here. The camera's on you. What do you, Speaker 2 00:06:56 We're sending to do a tour across Alberta, Saskatchewan here. Barring restrictions. It's a kick COVID in the Aster. Make sure you check it out. Small towns everywhere in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Gord, bamford.com the tickets to sell them fast. So hopefully we can do it without mass. Speaker 0 00:07:14 Awesome. Well for good Murray wood, Buffalo and the rest of the world. That's been another episode of the Mac city morning show. Once again. Thank you so much for watching.
