Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. And I'm your host. Steli up here. We're going to start the show off the same way we started all the shows off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time. So the fact that you choose to spend with us truly does me in the world to me on that note, Tanner hit him with the trunk.
Speaker 0 00:00:29 Okay. And we're back. As you can see, we are not on the set of the max any morning show. We are at rib Fest. So big shout out to Dennis, all the volunteers and all the sponsors for making this happen. It's been an amazing event now, as you all know, I don't introduce my guests. I let them do that themselves. So on that note, can you please tell everybody who you are and what you're about?
Speaker 2 00:00:49 My name is Dana St. Croix, um, server at 72 kitchen and patio. I long standings, um, been living here in Fort McMurray, 17 years, 17 years, 17 years. Love it here. I came here like everybody else with that a two year plan. Yeah, a really long time ago. And I am still here. Awesome. Raising my kids here. I don't know if I do it anywhere else. Loving this place. So
Speaker 0 00:01:16 Kids, plural, how many kids? I have two girls, two girls.
Speaker 2 00:01:19 What are their ages? 12 and almost 15, 12 and 15.
Speaker 0 00:01:24 They're a
Speaker 2 00:01:25 Little women now. Yes, they are. Good girl. Can't complain. Honestly. They're cooler than most adults. There you go.
Speaker 0 00:01:34 Very cool. So when you moved here so many years ago, where did you come from?
Speaker 2 00:01:37 Came from Newfoundland. I know shocking. Right? Who knew,
Speaker 0 00:01:43 Who knew you might be the first I've ever met?
Speaker 2 00:01:46 I highly don't know
Speaker 0 00:01:48 What part of
Speaker 2 00:01:49 Newfoundland. I grew up in the Avalon peninsula, a little town called Carmen here. And, um, yeah, it's home. It's home away from home, still
Speaker 0 00:01:57 Small community,
Speaker 2 00:02:00 Not too bad, not too tiny and not, um, you know where you have to drive an hour away to get you your biggest amenities, like the shopping mall or anything, you know, decent size I can't crowd.
Speaker 0 00:02:13 So what brought you to Fort McMurray? Who'd you come with? How did you guys hear?
Speaker 2 00:02:17 I love these stories. I joke around and tell people. I came here to get away from my crazy family, but I love my family. I don't just came here like all the way that most other people do come here to situate student loans and whatnot and just stayed. Yeah.
Speaker 0 00:02:37 Okay. And so like, obviously there's a lot of people from the east coast here. So did you know people are family and friends that you could crash with when you first?
Speaker 2 00:02:45 When I first came here, my mom was up here working out at site. And then when she left and went back home, I did not go back home. Um, I did go to grand Prairie first. Um, didn't really like grand Prairie is as much came here. So no bad, nothing bad to say about grand Prairie. I just like this place.
Speaker 0 00:03:10 Well, it's called the Mac city morning show. So our audience is going to applaud that. So when you, you said you had some student loans, what did he take in school?
Speaker 2 00:03:19 Uh, at the time I was studying dental, assisting know They are, and I didn't really realize how gross they were until I came to clinical. And yeah, it was a no thank you for me after that.
Speaker 0 00:03:37 And not everybody comes in with like a perfect smile. Like a lot of times they're going to come up with like some jacked up teeth. You're going to have to do some work on it.
Speaker 2 00:03:45 I have jacked up teeth, but there's other things that come along with it. You kind of need to brush them and floss and take care of them. It's probably one of the first things that I noticed on a person is their smile. And I'm not judging you. Maybe judging you,
Speaker 0 00:04:04 Brush your teeth, go to the dentist floss regularly. It isn't boring. So you are a server here now, is that what you've been doing primarily the whole time that you've been here?
Speaker 2 00:04:13 Um, for the most part, yes, for 15 years in the industry here. Um, the part that I really like about serving bartending, cause I've had other jobs. I worked at insight. I've done administrative, I've worked at the service tech, but what I enjoy most about this industry is you're meeting different people all the time, always a new face, so many different personas out there. And it's, it's amazing. It's amazing to me to connect with people, different people all the time. So many different levels. So it's been many lessons. Yeah. You learn a lot about yourself when you're connecting to other people in, in even just a five minute conversation. There's something to be learned there. And what I appreciate about it all is a little less. It's like a pass off, down to my kids and it's been great.
Speaker 0 00:05:05 That's awesome. Now we're here at rib Fest. I've seen you running around
Speaker 2 00:05:10 Like a mad woman.
Speaker 0 00:05:11 You behind the bar, you're in front of the bar. You're in the field. You're here, there and everywhere. Whoa. How did you get wrangled into this?
Speaker 2 00:05:19 Um, so I've known Dennis for the last few years. Uh, he was one of my regulars and a wood Buffalo brain when it was open. Um, first rip mess, uh, back in 2019, he had a conversation. He was like, I want you to be my farm manager. I was like, me, are you, are you serious? Really? Yeah, sure, sure. And he's like, oh, you're the woman for the job. And so I, I stepped up to it, took it on. It was great. I had a great time. Again, a lot of people, um, I'm a bit of a busy body, which is probably one of the reasons why he ran with me in, for the job. Um, cause I, I am. I'm whatever you need. I'm not just the title itself. I'm whatever you need. I get behind the bar in front of the bar, grabbing ice, picking up trash, stepping in. If somebody needs me to whatever, I'm here to back. My girls, my staff, and anyone else on the team. Whatever.
Speaker 0 00:06:25 Well, thank you very much for coming and sitting with me today. I do appreciate it. I know you were a little bit nervous, but you crushed it. So thank you for that. At the end of the show though, everybody gets a shameless plug or a shout out. So you got the microphone on you. The camera's on you. Shameless plug, shout out. It's all yours
Speaker 2 00:06:41 To anyone I want to, oh boy, my girls, you guys are killing it. You're doing so great. Thank you. Couldn't have asked for a better team. My right-hand man pram, man, you got me. I, I adore you. Couldn't ask for a better person.
Speaker 0 00:06:59 Shout out. It was full of love. I like that. Alright. Well, Fort McMurray with Buffalo in the rest of the world, that's been another episode of the Mac city morning show. Thank you so much for tuning in and I really do appreciate it. Hopefully you're having a nice day and we'll see you tomorrow. Peace.
Speaker 1 00:07:13 talk about quenching your ugly thirsty.
