Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac city morning show. I'm your host, Elliot Pierre. And we're going to start the show off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things just in time. So the fact that you're spending with us truly does mean the world to me. So thank you on that note, Tanner hit him with the intro. Speaker 0 00:00:30 Okay. And we're back. As you can see, we're not on the side of the Mac city morning show. We are at rib Fest. So big shout out to Dennis and every all, everybody, the volunteers, the sponsors, everybody who made this happen, we really do appreciate it. So thank you now, as you guys are accustomed to, I do not introduce my guests because they can do a better job at that than myself. So on that note, can you please tell everybody at home who you are and what Speaker 2 00:00:52 My name is? Rebecca Osman. I'm another new fee limit in McMurry and love this place and call it home. And yeah, Speaker 0 00:00:59 There we go. Well, thank you for coming on the show, Rebecca. I kind of voluntold you, so I really do appreciate Speaker 2 00:01:05 It. I didn't get to say no. No, you didn't get to Speaker 0 00:01:06 Say no. So you're from Newfoundland. How long you've been a former Speaker 2 00:01:09 I've been here permanently since 2012, but the first time I came here was oh eight. Speaker 0 00:01:14 Okay. And so between, oh, you came here in oh eight. When did you go? You went back. Speaker 2 00:01:18 Yeah, I was in university back east and then I would come out here. My parents were here, my brother was here. So I'd come for holidays. Come for the summer one time. Yeah, I've loved it here. I knew I was coming here a long time ago. Um, like I said, my family were here, so I was waiting until I finished my program and then to come out west to be with them. What program were you in? Um, I studied therapeutic recreation, so I actually work with the elderly. You can work in other domains, but um, I do their activity programming. I get them out into the community and keep them active and help them follow their leisure pursuits. So, yeah, it's a very rewarding career. Speaker 0 00:01:55 So how did you hear about that? How, like, Speaker 2 00:01:57 I actually, it's funny, but I actually started volunteering with the elderly when I was 13. Um, we actually did a course in high school. We needed volunteer hours and I just gravitated towards that. And that was my first experience. And I knew that was what I wanted to do. Speaker 0 00:02:11 And so when you're studying this, like what kind of program would you enlist in to take? Speaker 2 00:02:15 Uh, it's called therapeutic recreation. You can do, um, recreation there's diploma programs, like different facets of it. But what I did was gerontology support, uh, disability support, um, and then therapeutic recreation. Okay. Speaker 0 00:02:29 So while you're doing that in town, like where do you work out of? Do you work out of the hospital? Do you, are you a private contractor? Speaker 2 00:02:34 I actually work at the rotary house. Senior's lodge. Oh yeah. I've been there for eight years. Speaker 0 00:02:40 Yeah. I, uh, my aunt used to live there and Speaker 2 00:02:42 Kim, she actually, she passed away just a month after I started there. Yeah. And she was almost Speaker 0 00:02:49 199. She was Speaker 2 00:02:52 A beautiful lady. I didn't get to know her very well, but yeah. Speaker 0 00:02:55 Okay. Yeah. No. So rotary clubs. Cool. Maybe one day when I get old. Speaker 2 00:03:00 Yeah. I'm telling you, they, they loved their life down there. It's absolutely a beautiful location. Great view of the Borealis park. And there's a storm pond there. We Speaker 0 00:03:09 Just love Speaker 2 00:03:10 To see those seasons change and see that real beauty of forest. Speaker 0 00:03:14 So now you're at rib Fest. What are you doing here? I just met you behind the bar Speaker 2 00:03:17 And you do it all weekend. Yeah. Yeah. So I do this every now and then. Um, I used to do events at McDonald island concerts and whatnot at the Legion. I worked at 57 north. I love it. I don't spend a lot of my time outside my 40 hours doing this, but this has been a really good choice for me. And we're having a great weekend. So Speaker 0 00:03:38 I was paying zero attention to the bar stuff yesterday Speaker 2 00:03:41 Last night. And I'm here again tomorrow. Okay. Speaker 0 00:03:43 Music yesterday was insane. Oh yeah. It was so loud, man. I was so into it. It was loud though. Speaker 2 00:03:49 We were having a good time. Yeah. It was hard to hear a lot behind the bar, but we were having a lot of fun. We were dancing kind of jumping, jumping up and down. Me and my best friend actually are working in this bar this whole weekend. That's more fun than anything. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:04:02 So what about former Marine attracted you here? You said like you knew you were going to be out here. Speaker 2 00:04:05 Yeah. So my family were here and it just so happened the last summer before I moved out, I kind of knew I was coming this way and just kind of looking at drop pursuits. Um, and then I met a guy and he was actually working here too. So love brought us out here together. And we've been here ever since together. Speaker 0 00:04:22 It's been off the east coast in Fort McMurray. Speaker 2 00:04:25 Yeah. But this is home for me. Like, it's sad to say, but I haven't been back to New Zealand in six years. Oh, wow. Um, I was going to go this year, but depending on, I kind of got in between that, but um, I love it here. I do. I love it here. I love the proximity to Southern Alberta and the mountains and yeah. It's probably the best place in our religion. I love it here. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:04:46 This is the best plug before with Marie ever. Yeah, I like it. Okay, cool. So usually Tanner would ask questions. He has a segment called the Mac CT minute. Now I've been trying to fill his boots, but I can't, he's sitting over there. Do you think that the mic will pick you up or is it too loud? Still. Okay. Everybody home. He's going to try as best cause I've been failing miserably with the maps in a minute. So Dan, let's hear you buddy. Question Speaker 3 00:05:13 Number one. What is your Speaker 0 00:05:14 Favorite Speaker 2 00:05:18 Favorite drink to serve? I can't really pinpoint an exact one, but I love actually pouring like liquor drinks by the ounce or whatnot. I would rather pour that as a little bit more fun. You can kind of play with it a bit and change it up, but, uh, everything's good. But yeah, I'd probably just like pour in from the wealth of the most Speaker 3 00:05:38 Question. Number two from all your time in Fort McMurray, what has been one of your favorite events to attend? Speaker 2 00:05:44 This is up there, but I think one of my favorite ones was a concert at McDonald island when God, who was it, Kip Moore played. And it was a really crappy day raining like sideways in through the tent where we were bartending, but it was just the awesome music and the awesome atmosphere. People everywhere. It was probably the last big one that I did before the pandemic. So yeah, that was, it was a good show. It was a great Speaker 3 00:06:09 Being at rib Fest. What do you think is one of the most underrated dishes being served today? Speaker 2 00:06:15 So, so far since I've been here, I've had some pulled pork and then I've also had the bloomin' onion. And I have to say I had not had the pulled pork before in previous rep test years and I loved it. Like I devoured it. I would have it again. I'm probably going to have it again today. So, and we had it from Billy's barbecue is, yeah, it was Speaker 3 00:06:35 Question number four. Who do you think makes the best sauce at rib Fest? Speaker 2 00:06:41 I've heard a lot about Billy's. I think they won several years in a row now. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but their sauce was pretty good. I think the only other one I've had in previous years was pistol Pete, but I probably going to have to go with Billy's on the sauce. Speaker 3 00:06:54 And your final question, who do you think should come to Fort McMurray to play an event? Speaker 2 00:07:01 Fort McMurray to play any event? I want to see somebody big here and definitely somebody country, somebody current, maybe Miranda Lambert or somebody like that, or Eric Church, somebody actually of all the concerts I've seen the most upbeat was Keith urban. I would love. Speaker 3 00:07:23 And those have been your five questions. Speaker 0 00:07:26 There we go. Tattered killing with the questions we found out a way to make the sound better on those MacGyver baby. Speaker 2 00:07:35 There we go. Speaker 0 00:07:36 All right. Well, that's been the show. Speaker 2 00:07:37 Awesome. Thank you so much for having me. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:07:39 Thank you. So before we cut our guests loose, though, you got shameless shout out or plug. So the Mike's on you, the camera's on you. Speaker 2 00:07:47 I'm gonna shout it out to my family. So I have my loving partner here, Mike and Fort McMurray, my mom and dad, Heather and Brian, my brother, Ryan, his wife, Martha, and their two beautiful children who I adore William and Erica. Speaker 0 00:07:59 There we go. I love family shuttles. They're the best. Speaker 2 00:08:02 And all my seniors at rotary house. I love them too. Speaker 0 00:08:06 Fort McMurray with Buffalo. That's been another episode of the Mac city morning show. Thank you very much for tuning in. Hopefully you're enjoying red Fest or the red fence atmosphere. If the sounds a little bit off, I apologize. I can do nothing about that. We got music playing in the background and it just makes you event even better on that note. Hopefully you're having a great day and we'll see you tomorrow. Speaker 4 00:08:28 Dalio Wade, and another morning show. Speaker 6 00:08:44 Yeah. Talk about quenching your ugly thirsty.
