Speaker 0 00:00:00 Good morning, Fort McMurray, wood, Buffalo, and the rest of the world. You've tuned into the Mac CD morning show. I am your host Elliot Pierre, and we're going to start this episode off the same way we start every show off with a moment of gratitude. I know you could be doing a million other things with your time, and the fact that you spend with us truly does mean the world to me. So thank you on that note, Tanner hit him with the intro.
Speaker 0 00:00:29 All right. We're back. As you can see, we are not on the set of the Mac city morning show. We're at Kiano colleges, sports and wellness center. Big thanks to, uh, the boys for inviting us out. And we have some really fun guests here. So as you know, I don't introduce my guests. I let them do that themselves. So on that note, can you please tell us who you are and what you guys are all about?
Speaker 2 00:00:48 Uh, my name is Brandon Brooks and I am with the, uh, with Buffalo disc golf association. Uh, we're here for our pudding night tonight. Um, and
Speaker 3 00:00:59 My name is Ben Brooks and I am a part of the WB the year.
Speaker 0 00:01:03 There you go. Very cool. So how long have you guys been a part of disc golf? When did you get involved? How did you start playing it?
Speaker 2 00:01:11 I picked the sport up, uh, just, um, about a year and a half ago fall. And, um, it kind of just became a go out with my buddies kind of thing once. Checked it out. I'm a former, sorry, previous golfer. Uh, and I just basically ended up becoming a disc golf for a transition from golf to disc golf. I wouldn't say it was a very good golfer anyways
Speaker 0 00:01:35 And,
Speaker 2 00:01:36 Uh, get a lot more fun. I wouldn't say I'm a better discover either by, uh, than a golfer, but, uh, definitely enjoy the sport and a lot of passion.
Speaker 0 00:01:48 Nice. So you playing in the summer league as well and then playing winter or?
Speaker 2 00:01:53 Uh, so I, I joined about mid season last year for the, for the Fort McMurray league. Uh, and then, um, I was helping, uh, Kyle, uh, uh, with the junior league here in, uh, in Fort McMurray and, uh, it kind of boomed really fast. And that's where this guy? Yeah, Kayla.
Speaker 0 00:02:15 Okay. So let's hear about yourself. So when did you start playing disc golf here?
Speaker 3 00:02:19 I think it was a little bit after my dad started playing.
Speaker 0 00:02:22 Yeah. And have you been able to convince some of your buddies to come out and play too? Are you just hanging out with the big boys?
Speaker 3 00:02:27 I convinced my friend.
Speaker 0 00:02:29 Yeah. Nice. So with the junior league, are they playing regularly as well?
Speaker 2 00:02:35 Um, they, um, for the most part, uh, if there was a six week stint through the summer, uh, where we, we started pretty small with, uh, like one, two kids. Ben was our first and, uh, then it crew, I think there was at our max week. I think we had close to a dozen kids. Wow. Yeah. So it picked up pretty fast in the summertime everybody's off. And most people are out of town because we're cottagers and whatnot, but we seem to find a lot of the kids that were staying put.
Speaker 0 00:03:09 So how long have you been in Fort McMurray?
Speaker 2 00:03:11 Uh, I am a born and raised Fort McMurray.
Speaker 0 00:03:15 No
Speaker 2 00:03:15 Way. Uh, actually this is, I'm a third generation for .
Speaker 0 00:03:20 Oh, that is so cool.
Speaker 2 00:03:21 My father was born and raised here. Uh, my grandmother was not born here, but raised here. Right. So yeah, the Bronx.
Speaker 0 00:03:29 Wow. Okay. You got me in town or beat? I'm born and raised here too. So was Tanner, but like we're first? No, I'm first generation. He first said, okay, first gen. Very cool. Well, I got asked the question then. What high school did you go to? Westwood Westwood. Alright, well, Tanner's booing off stage. I'm Merck. Tanner's column for your west. Everybody's getting the coverage here today. We'll play disc golf. See which one's the best. Yeah. Don't don't play. You didn't catch that on camera. Okay. Very neat. So you've seen this community grow a lot since you've been here then?
Speaker 2 00:04:04 Yes, absolutely. Uh, from the eighties up.
Speaker 0 00:04:07 Yeah. Very cool. And how did you hear about disc golf? Like did, was it buddies, did you bump into
Speaker 2 00:04:15 A couple of my friends just said, Hey, you want to go? And I said, yeah, sure. Yeah. It sounds like fun. Yeah. Hooked.
Speaker 0 00:04:20 So now that you're hooked on this, it's like that. So have you just like put away the golf clubs at this point? And this is like the primary.
Speaker 2 00:04:28 I still have my clubs. I pretty much only golf once in a while with my dad. Like when I'm out of town, uh, they were cottagers as well. So then police dumped by Boyle. So we would go skeleton lake golf course, Ben Redwater golf course. And it's probably the only two golf courses that played in the last five.
Speaker 0 00:04:45 Okay. This is it then. Okay. Well, cool guys. Listen. The show's a lot longer when people come to the set, but I know like you're here to play, so I don't like to keep people too long, but at the end of every episode, everybody gets a shameless shout out or plug. So, uh, you got the lights, the camera, the mic have fun.
Speaker 2 00:05:01 You want to go first? You want to shout something out? Fort McMurray? Uh, I will shout out for both of us then, uh, the junior league wood, Buffalo discos association, uh, will be starting up in, I believe the summer. And, uh, we'll be looking for kids. So, uh, it there's no, um, really levels, uh, come on out and learn the sport. Have fun.
Speaker 0 00:05:28 No sweet man. Well guys, thank you very much for coming on the show day. I do appreciate it. Fort McMurray with Buffalo, the rest of the world.
